Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell has said coming out the other side of an eating disorder is one of her “greatest achivements” as she reflected on her struggles before fame. The dancer admitted while working on a cruise ship, she would do anything to have a “perfect body” which included working out “six hours a day” and making herself sick.

Reflecting on her struggles, the 34-year-old shared: “As a dancer, I used to think I had to look a certain way to be cast in something, but that’s not the case at all. Very thin can sometimes mean you’re not doing things in the correct way or looking after yourself.

“For so long I didn’t tell anyone, not even my parents. I would say, ‘Oh I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m just loving working out six hours a day’. I didn’t, but I was covering it up,” she added to Closer Magazine. Dianne said while working in her previous job, dancers got “weighed every week” which prompted her to be very cautious about how she looked.

Not wanting to gain any weight, the dancer said she would skip meals or just eating spinach until she became “very weak”. Dianne’s turning point came when a doctor warned she could have a heart attack if it continued.

“It got to a stage where I was very weak and had anxiety about being on stage. I’d lose the ability to know what to do next and it was affecting me every day,” she recalled.

Taking on board the doctor’s warning, Dianne sought treatment and managed to turn her life around.

Now in a healthier place, she added: “Rather than neglecting your body to look a certain way, it’s about how you feel, and that’s been the most rewarding lesson.

“I would say to my younger self now, there’s no such thing as the so-called perfect body – it’s not realistic.”

Dianne previously opened up about her health struggles on Lorraine, where she admitted there was still “that slight voice in the back of my head” about her body image.

“I don’t think it ever 100 per cent goes away – but it’s how I deal with it now and that is much stronger, healthier and better for me,” she added.

Dianne, who joined Strictly Come Dancing back in 2017, is currently spending Christmas in her Australian hometown with her family and boyfriend Joe Sugg.

While competing in the 2023 series, the professional sparked concerns after she grew emotional during a live show and was consoled by her celebrity partner Bobby Brazier.

The dancer later told fans her dad was fighting cancer and that she would be flying back home for Christmas.

Dianne has since been keeping her 998,000 followers updated with his progress, revealing that three days ago he underwent his third round of chemotherapy.

Alongside a video of his visit to hospital, the Strictly pro wrote: “Round 3, proud of you dad always with a positive mind frame and smile on your face.”

The update comes after Dianne shared a picture of the pair enjoying a hot drink as they embraced finally being back together

“And from the concert to having our first morning coffee, I’m home,” she shared with fans.
