Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola suffered a blunder while performing a daring showdance during the Strictly 2023 final this evening. Viewers were left gutted for the former Coronation Street actress, as her professional dance partner rushed to comfort her.
The couple, who have caused a stir with their chemistry this series, took on a risky lift for the finale of their routine, in which Ellie sadly stumbled while trying to balance on Vito’s shoulders. Fans caught Ellie holding back tears while apologising to her partner for the mistake when the dance ended.
Vito responded by covering Ellie in kisses and asking if she was ok, before making their way over to the judges. It wasn’t long before fans inundated the couple with support.
One fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “My heart is breaking at for Ellie & how Vito is making sure she’s ok. Why does #Strictly make so so emotional every b****y week.”(sic)
Another BBC viewer shared a tearful GIF before adding: “Ellie apologising to Vito for the lift going wrong has me like #StrictlyFinal #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly.” A third person gushed: “Nooo, the way that Vito just held Ellie’s face when the dance ended and kept asking if she was okay, I CANTTTTTTTT, I WANT A VITO!!!!”
Further praising Vito for his kindness towards his partner, a fourth fan tweeted: “I thought I couldn’t love Vito more, but Ellie apologising to him because the lift went wrong and him not caring about the lift and just holding her face in his hands and repeatedly asking if she was ok has changed that.”
Plenty of BBC viewers also vowed to vote for Ellie and Vito despite the mistake in their showdance.
One remarked: “Love Ellie and @Vito__Coppola – that dance was insane even with the blip at the end. Just incredible – they have all my votes!! #StrictlyFinal #StrictlyComeDancing.”
Another made a comparison to Ellie’s fellow finalists Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, as they agreed: “Bobby & Diane that was lovely but it really doesn’t compare to Ellie & Vito even with the blip at the end, they were phenomenal! #StrictlyFinal.”
Vito managed to save Ellie from falling on the Strictly ballroom floor, and was quick to reassure her that everything was ok.
The Strictly judges also shared kind words with Ellie, with Craig Revel Horwood emotionally saying that it was “a terrible shame” that the acrobatic lift went wrong.
Motsi Mabuse also said Ellie deserved praise for the dance and for braving the lift.
Head judge Shirley Ballas told the couple that it was a “difficult routine” with a “tiny hiccup”, as the judging panel all agreed the star should be proud of her achievements.
