However, one person who didn’t seem to mind at all was movie star Taraji P. Henson.

Unfortunately, Kevin Hart was one person on the receiving end of Henson’s boldness.

Taraji P. Henson Called Kevin Hart Out For Owing Her Money

In 2021, Taraji P. Henson appeared alongside Kevin Hart in his Peacock show Hart to Heart. During the segment, the two talked about generational trauma, mental health, and all the things that come with stardom.

At one point, Kevin Hart began to shine light on Henson’s work and accomplishments both on and off-screen, that is, the companies and foundations she’s been building, saying, “You definitely checked a lot of boxes… and by ‘checked a lot of boxes’ you’ve shown your range. You’ve shown that, you know, TP is not just a one-note actress… TP has levels.”

He then encouraged Henson to open up about her motivation behind the organization she built around mental health called the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation.

The story begins with Taraji P. Henson looking for a therapist for her and her son, and while Henson is telling the story, she interjected by throwing shade at Kevin Hart:

“When I was looking for a therapist for myself and my son, it was hard. Called my best friend, who runs my foundation, Tracy Jenkins. Oh… you know you never made that donation, but we’ll get back to that.”

This sudden, seemingly out-of-nowhere comment visibly caught Hart by surprise as he was seen looking confused and dazed at the camera. Hart remained silent (looking directly at the camera) as Henson added, “But I’m on your show, and I do everything you ask me to, but that’s okay. I’ll get back to that.”

Obviously, Hart had forgotten about his promise to donate to Henson’s foundation because he refused to say anything besides mouthing the word “sh**” to the camera after Henson put him on the spot.

Kevin Hart Promised He Would Donate To Taraji P. Henson’s Foundation But Didn’t

As the Hart to Heart segment continued, Taraji P. Henson recalled the story of when Kevin Hart said he would donate to her foundation. She began with, “So I did the foundation, and I remember calling you — I was in Chicago.” What followed was Henson mocking the telephone call with dialogue that leaves plenty of room for interpretation. However, even though the words weren’t clear, her point was: Kevin Hart owed her money.

“How much did I say I was going to give to you?” Hart asked. “A hundred thousand,” Henson replied matter-of-fact. This was then followed by Henson fanning the flames:

“Why did you ask? You better be glad I didn’t say a million because I know you got it.”

Seeing that Hart had seen his net worth grow exponentially in just one year, Henson’s request wasn’t as outrageous as it may have come across. Moments after stating how much Hart owed her, Hart affectionately said that whatever Henson needed he would supply, and that included the $100,000 donation to her organization.

Taking advantage of the rolling cameras, Henson increased the temperature on Kevin Hart’s hot seat and attempted to increase the donation. However, Hart jokingly refused Henson’s second remark about a million-dollar donation. They eventually settled on the initial asking price even though Henson exposed that she doubled the amount in the first place.

“Okay, a hundred thousand. Did you hear this? I made you double it ’cause at first you said fifty… it’s for a good cause though, Kevin, seriously.”

Taraji P. Henson Revealed The Underlying Inspiration For Her Foundation

Although Kevin Hart forgot and neglected to donate to Taraji P. Henson’s foundation, he vowed to make things right after solidifying his promise on camera.

With this, Hart returned the conversation to the inspiration behind Henson starting the foundation. The inspiration started when Henson hesitated after she contemplated seeking help for her mental health. This hesitation exposed a generational trauma she wanted to address.

“It’s deep for us. You’re talking about over 400 years of oppression. So you’re talking about trauma that black people have learned to normalize.”

The two instantly bonded over their shared experience of being of black descent and the life experiences that come with that. They went back and forth — in a way finishing each other’s sentences — talking about mental health in the black community and how it has become stigmatized to seek help if you’re struggling.

In the end, the interview not only gave Taraji P. Henson the chance to remind Kevin Hart of his promise, but it raised awareness for a cause Henson is attempting to tackle with her foundation.
