The Beatles Record That Sold For Nearly $800,000

Highlights

  • The first pressing of The White Album by The Beatles sold for nearly $800,000 at an auction.
  • Other valuable Beatles recordings, including a rare Quarrymen record and the infamous Butcher cover, have also sold for six figures.
  • The Beatles’ latest record, “Now and Then,” was highly anticipated and received acclaim upon its release.

The Beatles, arguably the biggest and greatest band ever, were able to enter the fold in the 1960s and completely revolutionize the recording industry, and pop culture as a whole was never the same. They’ve crafted songs that have stood the test of time, have spent a fortune making songs, and have more than earned their place in history. Decades later, and the Fab Four are still considered to be the best to ever do it.

Through the years, as their legacy grew, all things Beatles exploded in popularity and value. In fact, a unique Beatles recording was able to snag nearly $800,000 at an auction! A crazy price, but for one collector, it was totally worth it.

If you think that’s wild, just wait and see how expensive some of their other valuable recordings are!

The First Pressing Of The White Album Fetched Nearly $800,000

When you’re as big as The Beatles, virtually everything you touch is worth its weight in gold. Case in point, the first pressing of The White Album, one of the band’s greatest works.

“A rare first pressing of The Beatles’ self-titled 1968 album, commonly known as the White Album, has been donated to the British Heart Foundation. The copy is in excellent condition and includes all original inserts, including a fold-out poster.

“Before much later re-issues, the White Album was pressed with numbered record sleeves, making each unique. Ringo Starr owned No.0000001 before he sold it for a record-breaking $790,000 in 2015,” Far Out reported.

Released on November 22, 1968, The White Album marked a departure from The Beatles’ earlier work. The White Album left an indelible mark on music history. Its eclectic mix of rock, folk, blues, and experimental sounds showcased The Beatles’ versatility. The album’s enduring popularity is evident in its continued sales, reaching over 24 million copies sold worldwide.

The legacy of The White Album extends beyond its commercial success. The Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time consistently ranks it among the top albums ever recorded. Its impact is felt in contemporary music, with artists across genres citing it as a source of inspiration.

As impressive as the sale of that original pressing it, it’s hardly the only Beatles record to snag a bounty.

One such record is a recording by The Quarrymen, who predated the Beatles we came to know and love.

“Before there was The Beatles, there was the Quarrymen, consisting of a different line-up sans the lovable drummer with a fabulous name. Recorded in 1958, this was the band’s first commercially created record, but it’s never actually been heard by the public at large. If you want a taste of these early Quarryman days, you’d have to go to Paul McCartney’s personal stash of memorabilia. Yet, experts estimate the original copy is worth about $170,000,” Love to Know reports.

Elsewhere, the band’s infamous Butcher cover earned $125,000 at auction.

“Even used copies of this album are still super valuable to hardcore collectors because of the sensation that surrounded them,” the site stated.

It’s a good thing the band is still extremely valuable, because they just spent a fortune on what has been dubbed their final song.

The Beatles’ latest record, “Now and Then,” might not have an official price tag on it, but given the lengths people went through to finish the song and film the video, we can only imagine what that finally tally looks like.

“The Beatles were famous technophiles, forever on the lookout for new ways to record and modify sounds, and the short official documentary accompanying the release of “Now and Then” stresses the idea that, as McCartney puts it, the use of A.I. is “something the Beatles would have been very interested in.” Lennon’s son Sean echoes that sentiment: “My dad would have loved that, because he was never shy to experiment.” Lennon’s son and his closest collaborator are free to speculate on what his wishes might have been,” Slate wrote regarding the use of AI in the project.

So far, the track has been met with acclaim, and it’s managed to chart around the world.
