Cher Called Out Madonna For Being Rude To Her Guests
After Cher became famous during the 1960s, she has never lost the spotlight. Since Cher has been a superstar for decades, she has rubbed elbows with pretty much every member of the music elite since the ’60s, including Madonna. As Cher once explained while talking to CBS’ Steve Kmetko during the 1990s, one of her interactions with Madonna made her think the queen of pop was a spoiled brat.
Since Cher was friends with Sean Penn, she invited the actor and his wife to her home for a gathering. According to Cher, however, when Madonna showed up at her home, she was rude to the other guests.
“I remember having her over to my house a couple of times, because [Sean Penn] and I were friends, and she just was so rude to everybody. It seems to me that she’s got so much that she doesn’t have to act that way.”
After observing Madonna’s behavior, Cher concluded that she didn’t like the younger pop star at all. “There’s something about her that I don’t like. She’s…mean. I don’t like that.” Cher also concluded what kind of person she believed Madonna was.

One truly remarkable example of Cher expressing how much she dislikes Madonna came during a 2018 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. During a game show style segment, Cher was asked to name the three artists she would want to duet with.
After coming up with two names, Cher was at a loss for words, so she opted to say she would never work with Madonna. “Oh, Adele, Pink, and not Madonna.”
In 1991, Cher appeared on a talk show that was hosted by Terry Wogan. During the resulting conversation, Cher expressed her opinion of Madonna. During that discussion, Cher began by complimenting Madonna before she went on to insult her several times.
“She’s unbelievably creative because she’s not unbelievably talented, she’s not beautiful, but she’s kind of, she’s rude.”

Terry Wogan then stated that he had been trying to come up with a way to “drag” Madonna into the conversation. In response, Cher joked that the fitting way to do that would be to “(drag Madonna) in by her hair”.
During another interview in which Cher was defending Madonna to a certain degree, she was still blunt with her criticisms. “She’s not really a great, great singer. She’s not really a great, great actress.” On another occasion, Cher joked that she celebrated Madonna’s birthday by getting a colonic.

After years of Cher publicly criticizing Madonna in many ways, it seemed pretty obvious that there were hard feelings there. However, based on what Cher told the Los Angeles Times in 2023, she and Madonna are on good terms now.

Since Madonna made their relationship newsworthy again, the Los Angeles Times asked Cher about their dynamic. Amazingly enough, Cher began addressing the topic by stating she feels differently about Madonna now. “I actually like her.”
Cher then went on to talk about her and Madonna making peace and amends. Cher even stated that Madonna forgave her past statements. Cher also went on to praise Madonna for her ability to capture what was going on in the world.
“We buried that hatchet a long time ago because I called her something so much worse, and she forgave me. But I give her this: There’s no one like her that had their ear to the ground and knew everything before anybody else. I mean, she knew what was coming, and she was right on it. I always felt that was her greatest gift — that she could know the trends before any of us.”
