Jennifer Aniston earned worldwide success with the popularity of Friends. Unfortunately, the star has dealt with certain health issues, including insomnia.

The Morning Show actor said, “I think it started somewhere in my thirties or even earlier, but you just don’t start to notice the effects of a lack of sleep when we’re younger because we’re so invincible.”

She explained to InStyle that while she didn’t think she needed much sleep earlier in her career, she eventually realized its importance. “Sleep is extraordinary. It’s beautiful. But, boy, did I take it for granted when we were young.”

“When you’re younger, you kind of take it for granted. You think, ‘I can survive on three-to-five hours of sleep and I feel great,’ and then, all of a sudden, it just starts not to feel great and your performance isn’t as up to par as it should be.”

However, she started noticing she wasn’t feeling like her usual self, and after speaking to a professional, she learned that losing sleep was disrupting her everyday routine and professional life.

She recalled, “I [realized I] wasn’t being mindful…around my sleep.” Aniston said, “over time, it was really starting to affect every single part of my daily life.” Losing sleep was also hurting the star’s ability to perform.

Jennifer Aniston always looks good, and seems to be aging backwards. Her healthy living habits make it hard to imagine the A-lister having health issues. However, she realized that her sleep struggles were a real issue when she noticed she was feeling off. “I didn’t have the motivation to do my exercise, I wasn’t going to eat great, [I had] brain fog; wasn’t learning lines,” she said during an interview with Healthline.

Not getting a proper amount of sleep each night became a real problem for Aniston. During an interview with People Magazine, she said, “It became something that I really was struggling with. It used to be the last thing on the list, but you can’t really abide by the three pillars of health – which are diet, exercise and sleep – if you can’t really exercise and you can’t really eat right if you haven’t slept well because your body clock is so completely thrown off.”

Aniston added that she even had issues with sleepwalking, but that it’s mainly a concern when she really needs the rest. “I have been known to [sleepwalk]. I’ve been woken up by house alarms going off that I’ve set off. I don’t think I do that anymore – that was when I was super sleep-deprived.”

Along with insomnia and sleepwalking, Aniston discussed using eyedrops excessively to relieve the suffering of dry eye. “It got to the point when I was using eye drops two to three times every hour to feel relief because it was so painful and so irritating and itchy,” Aniston revealed, per Nicki Swift.

The Murder Mystery actor has often discussed her health issues, such as insomnia and sleepwalking. Struggling to sleep also affected Aniston’s mental health.

Jennifer Aniston is known for her healthy lifestyle, which has always included exercise and a well-balanced, strict diet that fans are in awe of (like her ability to eat just one M & M). However, Aniston wasn’t able to function as well when she didn’t get enough hours of sleep, and started feeling anxiety as a result.

Because The Break-Up star was stressed about the amount of sleep she wasn’t getting, it began taking a toll on her mental health, as well as her physical health. “The more I worry about it, the harder it is to fall asleep,” she told People.

Luckily, Aniston found ways to help her through the worries not getting enough rest, including mediation and using an established routine to help her fall asleep at night.

She also sought medical advice, which helped her identify that lacking sleep was a concern. Getting professional help is “something she absolutely recommends” for those who struggle with sleep. Aniston has also worked to educate others on the importance of good sleep by teaming up with Idorsia for the Seize The Night And Day Campaign.

Fans might be envious of Aniston’s healthy glow, wondering what she eats, drinks, and how she works out to keep her ageless appearance, but the star says that getting proper rest is just as important for living a healthy lifestyle.
