‘The View’ Hosts Apologize For Joking About Kate Middleton And Fueling Rumors About Her Health

  • Public figures like Blake Lively and hosts of “The View” apologize for making jokes about Kate Middleton amid her health crisis.
  • The hosts express remorse for playing into rumors about the Princess of Wales’ disappearance and praise Whoopi Goldberg for not fueling speculation.
  • Whoopi Goldberg defended Kate Middleton even before her cancer diagnosis was revealed and cautioned against playing into baseless rumors.

After the news about Kate Middleton‘s cancer diagnosis, famous people around the world realized that the lighthearted jokes they thought were meaningless might have actually been harmful. Blake Lively, for instance, shared a heartfelt apology for making fun of the rumors about the Princess of Wales’ whereabouts. And now, the hosts of the popular talk show, “The View”, are joining in.

They felt terrible for their jokes about the Princess, even though they genuinely meant no harm, and explained the reasoning behind what they said. They also praised their co-host, Whoopi Goldberg, for the stance she took about the conspiracy theories right from the beginning, and said they have a lot to learn from her.

‘The View’ Hosts Remorseful After Making Jokes About Kate Middleton

It wasn’t only anonymous users on the internet who fueled conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton’s disappearance. Some public figures also played into it, and most now feel embarrassment and remorse, knowing what’s really going on with the Princess of Wales.

Recently, “The View” hosts publicly apologized for making jokes that ultimately fueled the rumors about Kate Middleton.

I feel awful, Whoopi was right and I’m guilty of getting into the fun of ‘Where’s Kate?’ and thinking it’s funny and sharing the memes and playing into that,” host Alyssa Farrah Griffin said. She explained the reason she made those jokes is that she didn’t think there was anything “serious” going on, and that she sometimes forgets that the royals are “actual human beings.”

I forgot something fundamental that we all know and that is every person — whether it’s a princess, somebody in high privilege or somebody next to you — is dealing with personal struggles that we have no idea about,” she said. “I send my love and strength to her because sure, the palace totally mishandled the PR of this but the public mishandled it.”

Host Sara Haines joined in, and in addition to sharing her apologies, she added that she was skeptical about the Palace’s honesty because of their track record of how they treat the women who marry into the family.

“You just never know what someone is going through. I’ve always questioned the way the royal family handles women, whether it was Princess Diana or Fergie (Sarah Ferguson) or Meghan Markle,” she explained. “I was not blaming Kate for what was going on, it really bothered me the way it was handled — whether it was my business or not could be debated. But I do hope now for a speedy recovery.”

Whoopi Goldberg Defended Kate Middleton From Rumors Even Before Her Diagnosis Was Revealed

Whoopi Goldberg

The only host who didn’t need to apologize was Whoopi Goldberg, because she was careful not to play into the rumors, even when people were at their most curious.

When the infamous doctored photo scandal came out, Whoopi came to Kate Middleton’s defense, stating that it was an honest mistake and didn’t necessarily mean anything.

“I’m sorry, I know very few people who don’t manipulate their own photos. I mean all you gotta do is swipe,” she said a few weeks ago. “You know what, I have to tell you. She may be the future queen, [but] she’s still an amateur photographer. That’s what they do!

She was, of course, referring to Kate Middleton’s apology and admission that she had edited the photo unsuccessfully before posting it.

Host Ana Navarro mentioned this in her own apology, saying that “The lesson I learned was when Whoopi Goldberg tells me to mind my own damn business, I’ll mind my own damn business from now on.”
