This Artist Took A Career Risk Calling Taylor Swift Out For Not Writing Her Own Songs

Highlights

  • Taking a shot at Taylor Swift’s songwriting can be career suicide, as seen with Diplo and now Damon Albarn’s bold claims.
  • Swift fired back on Twitter, calling Albarn’s words “damaging” and asserting that she writes ALL her own songs.
  • Albarn apologized for how his words were manipulated for clickbait, acknowledging the importance of crediting Swift’s songwriting.

We have seen this in the past, taking a shot at Taylor Swift can be career suicide. Diplo admitted in the past that making a comment about Swift’s backside was the worst decision of his career. It seems like another artist also made a questionable move, calling Swift out on her songwriting abilities, basically claiming she was getting help behind the scenes.

We’ll reveal the artist, while taking a closer look at how Swift responded to the allegations. In addition, we’ll reveal how the fans reacted, and if the artist apologized for his bold claims that didn’t sit well with lots of others.

Damon Albarn Told The LA Times Taylor Swift Didn’t Write Her Own Songs

English musician Damon Albarn is a recognized name in the music industry, and one who is very respected by his peers. However, he did take a bold approach on Taylor Swift, suggesting that her songs were written by somebody else.

During an interview with the LA Times, the artist said, “Billie Eilish? I think she’s exceptional. Taylor Swift? She doesn’t write her own songs.”

Albarn went on to state that co-writing doesn’t really count as coming up with a song on your own. Fans felt as though this was another shot at Taylor Swift.

“[Co-writing] doesn’t count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing. I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes. Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great.”

He added, “A really interesting songwriter is Billie Eilish and her brother. I’m more attracted to that than to Taylor Swift. It’s just darker — less endlessly upbeat. Way more minor and odd. I think she’s exceptional.”

Fans can clearly see that Albarn was taking major risks during the interview, suggesting that Swift was getting help for the writing of her songs, while he basically labeled Billie Eilish as the better storyteller between the two. As expected, Swift’s army didn’t take kindly to the artist’s words and, in addition, Swift herself took to Twitter, addressing the bold claims Albarn had made.

Taylor Swift Fired Back Following The LA Times Article

Swift fired back on Twitter, calling Albarn’s words “damaging.” We really can’t fault Swift for feeling this way, especially given how much pride she takes in writing her music.

Swift wrote on Twitter, “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f***** up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

Swift would add another comment, sarcastically revealing that she had written the tweet herself.

“PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering,” Swift tweeted.

As expected, Damon Albarn faced a lot of hate from the online community.

Fans tweeted, “I was such a fan of Damon Albarn. Until now. He’s gassing on two female talents. I am fed up of Taylor Swift being slagged off. She does SO much ALONE Re toxic male conduct. Appearing humble but in fact sharpening the blood. Shame on you Damon Love you Taylor. I am a Swiftie.”

Another fan wrote, “Music taste is subjective, but saying Taylor Swift doesn’t write her own songs is simply an ignorant lie. And this from the man who gave us such insightful lyrics as “woo hoo” and also “woo hoo.”

“When you’re at the very top of your game there’s always going to be someone trying to bring you down. Everyone who matters respects you and your work. Adore you, Taylor! Thank you for all the beautiful music you have written!”

Albarn did react to Swift’s feedback, and apologized for what had taken place.

Damon Albarn Apologized And Said His Words Were Manipulated For Clickbait

Albarn reacted to the tweet, and called the moment “clickbait.” The artist did apologize for how things were interpreted, and it did come off as sincere.

The artist wrote to Swift, “I totally agree with you. I had a conversation about songwriting and, sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologize unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.”

Albarn and Swift did not respond further following the series of tweets.
