Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson are among those who have paid tribute to late chef Bill Granger who has died aged 54 years old.
The food writer and restauranteur died on Christmas Day “peacefully in hospital” in London, according to a statement from his family shared on Boxing Day.
Nigella said on Instagram following the announcement she was “heartbroken” while Jamie, 48, said the news of his death was “heartbreaking”.
The statement from Bill’s family read: “A dedicated husband and father, Bill died peacefully in hospital with his wife Natalie Elliott and three daughters, Edie, Ines and Bunny, at his bedside in their adopted home of London.
“Born in Melbourne, Australia, Bill was a self-taught cook who became a celebrated global restaurateur and food writer with a career spanning over 30 years.”
It added: “He will be deeply missed by all, with his loss most profoundly felt by his adored family, who are grateful for all the love and support that has been given.”
Chef Jamie shared: “This is devastating news, I’m so sad to hear this, what a guy he was… a wonderful human, kind calm soul….
“I admired everything he represented in food, I remember the first time I met him many moons ago he couldn’t have been nicer and his food so good…
“Sending so much love to all his family, rest in peace, Bill, he will be sorely missed.”
Television cook Nigella, 63, added: “I’m heartbroken to hear this. So cruel.”
Meanwhile, Australian star Jason Donovan stated: “Devastating… Wonderful father and husband. Wonderful man!! Ray of Aussie sunshine.”
Bill worked as a waiter while he was studying art but his interest soon moved to food and he opened a restaurant called Bill’s in 1993.
Just three years later, he opened a second restaurant, and he also has UK eateries called Granger & Co.
The world-renowned chef also has restaurants in Hawaii, South Korea and Japan.
Bill’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed. He leaves behind his wife Natalie Elliott and three daughters, Edie, Inès and Bunny.
