Former Gladiators star Ulrika Jonsson has insisted “I don’t have anything to say” after her ex Sven-Goran Eriksson announced that due to his cancer battle, he tragically only has one year left to live. The 75-year-old had an infamous affair with Ulrika, 56, at the beginning of 2002, which has seemingly prompted the presenter’s fans to quiz her on his health news.
Taking to Instagram, the star shared a throwback photo and mentioned Sven in her caption, just hours after he shared his terminal cancer diagnosis with fans. She cryptically wrote: “Look at me being all young all that. So. PSA. I don’t have anything to say about Sven. #nada.
“Not a decent person,” she concluded. It is unclear if Ulrika was referring to herself or Sven in her final remark on the subject, however, it has been widely reported that the pair’s relationship didn’t end well.
Sven and Ulrika’s affair took place when the former England football manager was dating Italian lawyer Nancy Dell’Olio, 62. When Sven moved to London to manage the Three Lions, he met Ulrika.
Nancy initially shut down speculation around the affair, saying she and Sven were “more united” than ever, before branding the claims a “publicity attempt” by Ulrika. “We have spoken a lot over the last few days and there has been a lot of rubbish written. Sven will speak and dismiss it all,” Nancy said.
However, Nancy and Ulrika then rowed over the situation in the public eye, with the latter hitting back: “Sven is behaving like a lying cad. He promised me it was over with Nancy but then takes her out to dinner and doesn’t even call me.”
Sven eventually admitted to the affair in his 2013 memoir, in which he wrote: “It was not until we met at some kind of a function in Manchester that anything romantic occurred. I was there with some people from the FA.
“For some reason, Ulrika was also invited. We met at the hotel the evening before and ended up spending the night together.
“Ulrika said she was writing a book about her life. ‘Don’t worry, Sven,’ she said. ‘You won’t be in it. After that, Ulrika and I met when we could. Not daily, but now and then. It got to be more and more serious. Nancy did not suspect anything. She was travelling to Italy a lot during that time.”
Sven confirmed that he would meet Ulrika at her home in an affair that lasted four months, and “did not feel I had anything to apologise for.”
Due to the affair, Nancy broke up with Sven temporarily before taking him back, but their relationship then ended for good in 2007.
Although he has only just shared the news publicly, Sven has confirmed he was actually diagnosed with cancer last year after he collapsed while out on a run.
The football legend told Sweden’s P1 radio station: “Everyone understands that I have an illness that is not good.
“Everyone guesses it’s cancer and it is. But I have to fight as long as I can.”
Giving further details about his condition, the star sadly added: “I know that in the best case it’s about a year, in the worst case even less. Or in the best case I suppose even longer.
“I don’t think the doctors I have can be totally sure; they can’t put a day on it.”
