After his hit song “Beautiful Girls” was released in 2007, Sean Kingston collaborated with Justin Bieber and saw a lot of success in the music industry. Kingston’s career after “Eenie Meanie” included several albums, tours, and some tough times as well. Since he didn’t release an album every single year on the dot, fans often wondered when the next one would come out. Although sometimes a break between albums can suggest that a musician is busy exploring other creative projects, such as acting in a movie or starting a business, Kingston went through a lot during this period of his life.

Sean Kingston had an experience at a club in 2016 that negatively affected his mental health. It’s definitely sad to hear about what happened to the rapper. Here’s what he has shared about this event and how it made him feel.

What Mental Health Struggles Did Sean Kingston Experience?

Sean Kingston has been famous since 2007 when he released his first album, which was called “Sean Kingston.” After that came 2009’s “Tomorrow,” 2011’s “King of Kingz” and 2013’s “Back 2 Life.”

In 2016, Sean Kingston talked about his mental health and shared that he was struggling because of a horrible experience that he went through.

According to Bossip.com, the singer was at a club called Playhouse Hollywood in June 2016 when he alleged that several security guards made sure that he would be attacked. He was wearing necklaces that cost over $300,000 and those were stolen from him.

Kingston sued Playhouse and was looking for $900,000 at a minimum. He also hoped that the case would go to trial. He explained that he was dealing with “anxiety, fear, discomfort, mental and emotional distress,” according to Bossip.com.

Sean Kingston alleged that the guards used a bottle of champagne to hurt him so someone would be able to steal his jewelry. Meek Mills and The Game were also there.

Things got even more complicated when, according to Complex.com, The Game said that Mills told police that The Game set up the alleged assault and robbery. This led to the rappers arguing on social media for quite a while.

No further information was ever shared about what happened after this lawsuit. Any press focused on the relationships between Meek Mills, Sean Kingston, and The Game as they had trouble getting along afterward.

It’s understandable that this evening would affect Sean Kingston and make him feel anxious. It sounds like this was an incredibly difficult time for him.

While Sean Kingston didn’t talk much more about his mental health, he has discussed the ups and downs of his life and career. In 2007, he was interviewed by Today and said that he didn’t have an easy time when he was younger. For a little while, when he was a teenager, he didn’t have a home.

Kingston explained that at the age of 15, he spent an entire week using a bus stop bench as a bed when his sister and mom went to prison for identity theft and tax evasion. Although he began living with his aunt in Florida, it sounds like it was a scary experience. He said in his interview with Today, “I’ve been homeless. I’ve been through so much, I feel I’ve got a lot to express.”

The rapper also went through a lot with his music career. When he was interviewed by Grammys.com, he explained that things didn’t go as planned when he got a few of his deals.

This is a sad reminder that even when someone thinks that all of their dreams are coming true because they’re going to get the chance to record an album, things aren’t always perfect or smooth. The music industry is tough and things can go wrong really quickly.

Kingston explained, “I was caught in some bad situations. I was in some bad [record]deals. When I was younger, I signed a lot of contracts. I was hungry. I didn’t know about the music industry like that. I was just trying to get from point A to point B and trying to get discovered. They weren’t terrible, terrible deals, but they were situations I didn’t want to be in where I didn’t have creative control with my last label. I couldn’t drop when I wanted to drop.”

How Is Sean Kingston Doing Today?

While this was absolutely a tough time in Sean Kingston’s life, he seems to be feeling better these days. In 2021, he released his album “Road to Deliverance” and was passionate about promoting it.

The rapper shared his daily routine with Us Weekly and it looks like he makes sure to live a healthy lifestyle that includes movement. While his regular schedule includes performing and recording, he also loves to get a coffee from Starbucks around 10 a.m. and exercise at 1 p.m.

When he was interviewed and photographed for Fault Magazine in 2021, Kingston answered a question about mental health. He said that “Feeding the homeless, giving back is one of the greatest things that I love to do” and this makes him feel better.

Kingston said, “I love to give back, you know what I’m saying. I don’t give to get. I give freely with love. My mom taught me that. My mom instilled that in me. That is a family thing that we do. We go downtown and feed the homeless.”

Kingston continued, “We do a theme called ‘Party with a purpose’. We gather everything for the children and give it back. You got to bring an article of clothing or something to donate, toys, whatever you got. You can go to the dollar store and pick up something for a dollar. Drinking and eating for free bring something so we can give it to the people. Giving back. Making sure that my family eats, making sure that everyone is happy around me. That is good for my mental health. That makes me feel happy. And jewelry.”
