Musical theatre director Kellie Dickerson has died at the age of 53, her agent confirmed. The Australian was known for directing some of the biggest productions such as Wicked and The Book of Mormon.

Her agent, working Management, wrote on Instagram: “Vale our gorgeous Kellie. It was both a joy and honour to be your friend and agent. You gave so much to so many. A true icon of the industry.

“Your energy, kindness and talent were boundless. You never gave up the fight, humour, grace or Wordle! Much love to Broady, Toni, John and family. Rest in Peace Kel. You are loved and missed always.”

Kellie’s career began as a pianist before she became associate musical director with Beauty and the Beast, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz and The Producers.

She retired in 2020 after her battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) worsened. The rare illness affects the nervous system and causes gradual damage to the nerve cells in the brain.

Many fans have paid their respects to Kellie in the comments section. One follower wrote: “Such a glorious woman. What a mark she left on the world.”

A second typed: “Trailblazer, Friend to All, Musician Spectacular,” completed with broken heart emojis. A third penned: “Terribly sad, such a loss.”

A fourth wrote on X: “So sad to hear about Kellie Dickerson. Always looked forward to seeing her conduct as a teen Wicked fan leaning from the front row into the pit or turning around to watch the monitor screens. Such talent gone too soon. RIP.”

A fifth chimed in: “I am so, so sad to hear this news. I enjoyed working with Kellie some years ago,” as another said: “A sad loss to our MT industry but more than that, she was a beautiful, generous and nurturing human being who will be missed by all. Be at peace Kellie, you can rest now.”
