However, David Letterman almost certainly already knew that it wasn’t smart for anyone to mess with Rock. After all, Rock once made fun of Letterman to the talk show host’s face and his comments were breathtaking.

In 2009, an unforgettable episode of Late Show with David Letterman aired. During that episode, Letterman revealed to his audience that he’d been the victim of an extortion scheme.

As a part of that scheme, a criminal threatened to expose Letterman’s years of cheating if the talk show host didn’t pay up. Instead, Letterman got help from the police and then went out on his show and admitted to the world that he was a cheater.

If Letterman hoped that Rock might drop the subject from there, that idea was quickly dashed. Instead, Rock advised the host that he didn’t have to keep working before the comedian came up with a theory about why Letterman was still working.

“You’re a rich man. You could just go home. Wife’s still mad at ya, ain’t she? Why am I gonna drive back to Connecticut to a mean woman? I might as well just stay here and do the show with no voice.”

Still not through at that point, Rock then went on to mock the fact that Letterman had cheated with his female employees.

“I was backstage, you fired all the cute girls. You got a bunch of fat old guys back there.”

Since Letterman had a long history of mocking other celebrity scandals, he certainly couldn’t cry foul at Rock’s remarks. What Letterman did instead was play along with Rock’s jokes about the situation.

“I’ll tell you something, some of those guys are starting to look pretty good… Now, enough about me and my misery.”
