Bobby Berk confirms Tan France feud, reveals why he really left ‘Queer Eye’

Bobby Berk got candid about feuding with his “Queer Eye” co-star Tan France as he revealed the real reason why he left the Netflix show.

The reality star addressed the feud speculation during an interview with Vanity Fair published Thursday just a few weeks after he announced that Season 8 of the show would be his last.

“Tan and I had a moment,” he explained. “There was a situation, and that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show.”

Berk added: “It was something personal that had been brewing — and nothing romantic, just to clarify that.”

Rumors that the fashion consultant was responsible for Berk’s departure circulated last fall when the interior designer unfollowed his pal on Instagram.

“Should I have unfollowed Tan? No,” Berk, 42, said. “Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings — and siblings are always going to fight.”

While Berk didn’t elaborate further on their feud, he said he’s open to reconciling with France, 40, as the two most recently “embraced each other” at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys on Jan. 7.

“I will always have a very special place in my heart for him and Rob (France’s husband) and the kids,” he added.

Berk doubled down that their issue was personal and by no means “romantic.” MerlinProduction

“I can foresee in six months or a year, Tan and I at each other’s house being good. The Emmys was already the first bandage on that wound.”

“For the most part,” Berk denied that his rift with France was the reason why he decided to leave the show after six years, per the outlet.

Instead, he insisted that he and the rest of the Fab Five Crew — France, Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski and Karamo Brown — believed it was time to move on when their seven-cycle contract ended in September 2022.

“We thought we were done. Mentally and emotionally, I thought we all moved on. I know I did, and I started planning other things,” Berk explained.

However, with the writers and actors strikes playing out last year, Netflix pushed out a contract for four more cycles.

While Berk ultimately passed on the opportunity, the rest of the Fab Five decided to commit to the additional seasons at the last minute.

Berk admitted his co-stars’ sudden change of heart made him “mad” for a moment but it wasn’t worth him giving up the plans he already made.

“All the plans that I had made when I thought we weren’t coming back, I just wasn’t willing to change those,” he added.

“I would have had to pump the brakes on multiple other projects that are already in process. We had mentally just prepared ourselves to move on — that’s why I left.”

Berk shocked his fans in November 2023 when he announced he wouldn’t be returning for Season 9.

“It’s not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one,” he wrote at the time.

“Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon.”
