Britney Spears claimed that her dad Jamie Spears used her star-studded image to cash in, with him even once saying “I’m Britney Spears now.”
The pop star detailed her 13-year conservatorship helmed by her estranged father in a newly released excerpt from her highly anticipated memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
The “Toxic” hitmaker, 41, recalled being told she was “too sick to choose my own boyfriend and yet somehow healthy enough to appear on sitcoms and morning shows, and to perform for thousands of people in a different part of the world every week,” back in 2008.
“From that point on, I began to think that he saw me as put on the earth for no other reason than to help their cash flow,” she wrote of her father’s control at the start of the legal guardianship, according to the New York Times.
She claims he told her, “I’m Britney Spears now.”
During her years-long stint under her father’s control, the singer said she “went from partying a lot to being a total monk.”
“Security guards handed me prepackaged envelopes of meds and watched me take them. They put parental controls on my iPhone. Everything was scrutinized and controlled. Everything,” she penned.
A judge ended the “Gimme More” singer’s conservatorship on Nov. 12, 2021 — a whopping 13 years after it was first put into place following a series of public meltdowns.
In another excerpt from the tell-all, Britney called out her estranged dad for body-shaming her throughout the conservatorship.
“If I thought getting criticized about my body in the press was bad, it hurt even more from my own father,” she writes. “He repeatedly told me I looked fat and that I was going to have to do something about it.”
Britney explains that she shaved her head in 2007 as a way of combating the ongoing commentary over her appearance — but admits the decision cost her autonomy.

“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up, I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back,” she writes.
“But under the conservatorship I was made to understand that those days were now over. I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take.”
