CNN’s Chloe Melas jumps ship to NBC, expected to join the ‘Today’ show

Longtime CNN journalist Chloe Melas is the latest high-profile staffer to exit the struggling network.

We hear she’s been snapped up by NBC News, where she’ll appear as an entertainment correspondent on NBC’s TV and digital platforms, as well as sister network MSNBC. She’s expected to appear on NBC’s flagship morning show “Today.”

Melas joined CNN in 2016 and leaves amid the fallout from a string of corporate dramas including the ousters of network bosses Jeff Zucker and Chris Licht.

Catherine Kim, SVP of NBC News Editorial, announced the hire in a memo to staff on Thursday, writing, “If you know Chloe by reputation, you know she is a relentless, ambitious, prolific reporter who expands the definition of entertainment reporting.”

Kim said that Melas, who used to cover celebrity news for web site Hollywood Life and was a co-host of VH1’s “Gossip Table,” will join the network’s business and technology department, where she’ll cover “the intersection of entertainment, business and culture.”

She added that at CNN Melas “was known for her ability to land big scoops, as well as for her investigative pieces and celebrity interviews.”

On Wednesday night, Melas wrote on her Instagram Stories, “I landed my first job at CNN as a News Assistant right out of college and I loved it so much I returned 7 years later. Last week, this latest professional chapter came to a close. It has truly been a masterclass in journalism.”
