Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker was allegedly caught with marijuana and psychedelic pills before police arrested him on Thursday, according to reports.
The incident actually took place a year ago on Feb. 19, 2023, but the “Only Wanna Be With You” singer only turned himself in on Thursday.
Franklin, Tennessee, police state in the arrest affidavit that they pulled Rucker over because his registration tags appeared to be expired.
Once they reached his vehicle, however, police officers believed they smelled marijuana and asked Rucker, 57, if he had been smoking, and he answered he didn’t but may have the previous day.
The cops searched the “Time” singer’s car and say they discovered what they suspected was a THC pen along with 14 unmarked pills, which Rucker allegedly claimed were given to him by his girlfriend, Summer.
The officers then patted down Rucker, which is when the performer allegedly handed them a blunt he had in his pocket. Authorities claim they later tested the 14 pills and identified them as Psilocyn, which is a controlled substance similar to magic mushrooms.
Officers released him at the time they pulled him over because they wanted to wait for the rest results to come back. The documents state that an arrest warrant was issued in December, and Rucker turned himself in this week.
