Fans slam Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ snub from Oscars 2024 nominations: ‘Baffling’

Fans are blasting the Academy for failing to nominate Margot Robbie at the 2024 Oscars for her role in “Barbie.”

While Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera secured nominations for their roles as Ken and Gloria, respectively, neither Robbie nor director Greta Gerwig received recognition.

“can’t stop thinking about the greta gerwig and margot robbie (someone i didn’t even particularly want to be nominated!) snubs,” tweeted one cinephile.

“to nominate ryan and america and NOT the lead? NOT the director? just a baffling decision all around.”

Another netizen described the snub as “so messed up” while a third tweeted that she was “SHOCKED & disappointed” with Robbie’s lack of nomination.

Ryan Gosling, however, secured a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Ken, and America Ferrera nabbed one for her playing Gloria. Warner Bros.

One viewer called out the irony that a film with such a feminist message would fail to receive a female lead nod yet celebrate the performance of the male supporting actor.

“The Barbie Oscar snubs for best actress for Margot Robbie and best director for Greta Gerwig, while Ryan Gosling gets nominated for best supporting actor, are a different level of egregious and tone deaf,” the user wrote.

“What. A. Time. #Oscars2024.”

Neither Robbie nor Gerwig have commented publicly on the shutout.

“Barbie” received a total of eight nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Meanwhile, its box office competitor this summer, “Oppenheimer,” led the pack with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Support Actress for Emily Blunt and Best Director for Christopher Nolan.

Other major snubs that have been highlighted from this year’s ceremony are Charles Melton for his role in “May December” as well as Leonardo DiCaprio for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Instead, Robert De Niro nabbed a nomination for Martin Scorsese’s latest opus.
