‘General Hospital’ star Tyler Christopher’s official cause of death revealed

“General Hospital” star Tyler Christopher’s cause of death has been revealed nearly three months after he was found unresponsive in his San Diego apartment.

According to the Medical Examiner Office’s report, which was obtained by TMZ Friday, Christopher died at the age of 50 from positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication, meaning he suffocated from the position he was in while intoxicated.

Coronary artery atherosclerosis, which is the buildup of plaque inside of the arteries, was listed as a contributing factor.

His death was ruled accidental.

Page Six confirmed Christopher’s death on Oct. 31, 2023, with his rep telling us, “This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss.”

“He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend,” the rep continued. “My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much.”

Christopher’s “General Hospital” co-star and longtime pal, Maurice Benard, announced his death via Instagram the same night.

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting,” he said of the Daytime Emmy Award winner.

Benard also commended him for his mental health and substance abuse advocacy, as he lived with and “openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”

Christopher admitted in 2022 that he lost his job at “General Hospital” due to his alcohol abuse.

“It was devastating for a myriad of reasons,” he recalled to Benard on his “State of Mind” mental health podcast.
