Inside Vanessa Hudgens’ ultra-private jungle wedding to Cole Tucker: ‘It exceeded my expectations’

Vanessa Hudgens’ wedding day was everything she hoped for and more.

The “High School Musical” star married baseball player Cole Tucker during an ultra-private ceremony in Tulum, Mexico over the weekend — and despite the “overwhelming” wedding planning process, the big day went off without a hitch.

The lovebirds said “I do” at the Azulik City of Arts surrounded by about 100 of their closest friends and family.

Hudgens, 34, told Vogue that she knew she wanted “to be surrounded by nature, greenery, and foliage,” leading her to choose the museum — which is located “45 minutes into the jungle.”

“I knew that it was our place,” she said of her first time seeing the venue. “I felt like I was transported to some kind of utopia, unlike anything I had ever been to before. It was whimsical and magical, and I just fell in love.”

Following months of planning, the pair got friend Jay Shetty — who played a role in introducing the pair back in 2020 — to officiate the ceremony.

For her wedding look, the actress wore a white cowl-neck slip dress by Vera Wang, who Hudgens said always makes her feel “so confident and sexy and feminine.”

“I put it on, and I was like ‘It’s perfect. It’s easy, it’s simple, and it’s chic,” she said. “It was exactly what I wanted, but we obviously had to spruce it up a little and add some extra love to it so that it was special, just for me.”

The former Disney star, who wore her hair back in a slick bun, also wore a cape-like tulle veil with custom embroidery that read, “Mrs. T December 2nd, 2023,” in a gothic font.

“I love the whole ethereal bohemian vibe—that will always be a part of me, but I didn’t want it to be the main thing,” she explained.

All of the bridesmaids wore bronze dresses while Tucker opted for an off-white double-breasted jacket with tan trousers.

Hudgens and Tucker, 27, decided not to do a “first look” and the actress was nearly knocked off her feet when she got her first glance at the baseball player standing at the altar — which was decorated with an arch of orange marigolds and storybook fringe.

“Seeing each other at the altar for the first time is the most emotional moment of my life,” she reflected. “I literally keeled over when I saw Cole and had to take a big breath and had to force myself to keep walking because I could have dropped to the floor.”

During the ceremony, the couple read each other their handwritten vows, a moment that Hudgens will never forget.

“It is the most beautiful thing ever in a relationship to be that open and vulnerable and raw in front of all of the people you love proclaiming your love,” she said of the experience. “It’s just beautiful. I loved it.”

Following the unplugged ceremony, the actress changed into a fun, semi-sheer reception dress and enjoyed a night full of food, speeches, dancing and live music.

“It was genuinely the most magical weekend of my life,” she told the outlet, noting that she is “so grateful” everyone respected their request to keep their “phones away” so that they could have a “private wedding.”

“Seeing that and bringing everyone together and celebrating us, it was just so magical,” she continued. “Literally talking about it right now, I’m getting teary-eyed. I couldn’t have dreamt it to be any better. I knew it was going to be magical, but it exceeded my expectations.”

Hudgens and Tucker started dating in 2020 and went Instagram-official in February 2021.

Two years after going public with their romance, the baseball player popped the question with a massive oval-shaped diamond while the pair were in Paris.

Then in October, Hudgens and her friends celebrated her impending nuptials with a funeral-themed bachelorette party.
