John Stamos admitted he felt “emasculated” while married to Rebecca Romijn.
The actor opened up about the internal struggle he endured watching her career take off while his was on the backburner during Tuesday’s episode of SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show.”
“I loved her and I thought she was super talented. So I was happy to do that,” he said, per People.
“But I forgot about my own stuff. She was taking off and I just wasn’t paying attention to mine. And it wasn’t her fault.”
At the time, Stamos — who wed the actress and model in 1998 — had wrapped his hit sitcom “Full House” three years before.
“I said, ‘You know what? I’ve had enough fame, I’m OK. Let’s put the spotlight on her.’ And I loved watching it. I think that she outgrew me.”
The “Fuller House” star — who called it quits with Romijn in 2004 — added he was only putting in about “50, 60 percent” effort into his marriage and career at the time.

“I didn’t work on anything. I didn’t work as hard as I should at anything,” he admitted, adding that his “life would have been a lot better” had he put in the extra effort.
Even so, Stamos, 60, said that he didn’t believe his relationship with the former Victoria’s Secret model, 50, was meant to last forever.
The former couple got engaged in 1997 and wed the following year. The actor later filed for divorce in August 2004.
Stamos, who has been promoting his memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me,” recently admitted to People that he thought Romijn was “the devil” during their divorce.
“I just hated her,” he told the outlet last week. “I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.”
He added that the split “was shattering” for “way too long,” though he now recognizes his part in the breakup.
“You start thinking, it’s like, ‘Oh, she wasn’t the devil. Maybe I was as much to blame as her,’” Stamos said.
“It was very much the opinion that she dumped me because her career was going great and mine wasn’t. I don’t blame her for it. It was just the perception that people took.”
A rep for Romijn wasn’t immediately available for comment to Page Six.
Stamos has since moved on with his now-wife, Caitlin McHugh. The two tied the knot in 2018 before welcoming their son, Billy.
As for Romijn, she married Jerry O’Connell in 2007. They share twin daughters Charlie and Dolly.
