Katharine McPhee doesn’t ‘put up with any BS’ with son Rennie, 2: ‘Don’t want him to be an a—hole’

Katharine McPhee and husband David Foster are being careful not to let their 2-year-old turn into an “a—hole.”

“We don’t put up with any BS,” the “American Idol” alum told Us Weekly in an interview published Monday.

The singer added that they’re tough on bad behavior with their son, Rennie, because they “don’t want him to be an a—hole.”

“He [needs] to be nice, polite, obedient, have his own voice and all that, but just [be] a good kid,” she said.

While McPhee, 39, and Foster, 73, may have different parenting styles, she explained that they are both “really strong” about setting boundaries with the toddler.

“I would say I’m more of that newer generation of gentle parenting and explaining and having a bit more patience in just a new way than what I think the older generation was taught how to parent,” the mom of one said.

However, McPhee does hope that her Grammy-winning husband — who has five adult daughters from previous relationships — might adopt her style of parenting one day.

“[I] try to get him to be more like my approach without wanting to take away from how he wants to parent,” she told the outlet.

The songstress — who welcomed her little one in February 2021 — has previously been open about her blunders as a first-time mama.

The singer gave birth to Rennie in February 2021.

Earlier this month, McPhee confessed to accidentally “baking” her son’s iPad after attempting to “hide it.”

“The iPad is in the oven because he kept asking for it,” she shared on her Instagram Story.

Despite the hilarious online moment, the family recently suffered a tragic loss.

McPhee and Foster recently suffered the loss of their child’s nanny, Yadira Calito, in August.

In August, Rennie’s nanny, Yadira Calito, was fatally hit by a vehicle at a Toyota dealership in San Fernando Valley, Calif.

Aside from announcing that she had to rush home from the couple’s tour in Asia, McPhee has yet to publicly address the loss.

However, Foster spoke on his wife’s behalf last month, telling “Entertainment Tonight” that Calito’s death has been “tough for her [but] she’s managing.”
