Katharine McPhee seen for first time since ‘horrible’ family tragedy

Katharine McPhee appeared in a somber mood during a visit to LAX airport in Los Angeles Friday, shortly after it was revealed her son’s nanny unexpectedly passed away.

The “American Idol” alum, 39, was seen in photos obtained by the Daily Mail dressed in comfortable grey sweat pants, a white T-shirt and a blue and white button-down shirt.

She accessorized the relaxed look with a Chanel crossbody bag, a pair of tube socks, sandals and a cap that said “Singapore” over it, which she strategically tipped at some points to slightly conceal her face.

McPhee was forced to leave her tour in Asia abruptly after her family suffered the “horrible” tragedy.

“Dearest Jakarta fans, it’s with heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final two shows of our Asia run,” the “Over It” singer announced via Instagram Friday morning.

“David [Foster] and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us need to get back home to our family.”

She concluded her post, “Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all. Love Katharine.”

At the time, there was little information about what tragic event had occurred.

However, hours later, TMZ learned that the nanny, who cared for McPhee and Foster’s 2-year-old son, Rennie, had died. Her identity has also not yet been revealed.

The couple reportedly considered the woman to be like “family,” explaining why they were so overcome with emotion over the ordeal.

The specific circumstances surrounding the nanny’s death has not yet been disclosed.

Aside from McPhee’s original post, Foster, 73, has not addressed his employee’s passing further.

The famed music producer still took the stage in Indonesia Friday night for his “David Foster and Friends” tour, which also features musical acts Michael Bolton, Loren Allred, Peabo Bryson, and Raisa.

Foster and McPhee have been married since 2019 and Rennie is their only child together.

However, the “Terrified” singer said earlier this year that she would “love” to have another baby with the “All By Myself” producer.

“We’re not, like, in any crazy rush, but, um, I hope so because I love being a mom,” she said on the “The Jennifer Hudson Show” at the time. “I really love it.”

Aside from Rennie, Foster also has five other children, daughters Allison Foster, 53, Amy Foster, 50, Sara Foster, 42, Erin Foster, 40, and Jordan Foster, 36, from previous relationships.
