Steve Mitchel made sure to get the stamp of approval from Melissa Rivers’ 24-year-old son before popping the question last month.
Rivers told E! News Thursday that her soon-to-be husband called her son, Cooper Endicott — whom she shares with ex-husband John Endicott — “to get permission” to propose.
“Cooper means the world to me and has always been the most important man in my life,” Rivers told the outlet. “Apparently, Steve was more nervous asking Cooper than he was asking me.”
“I’m grateful that Cooper said yes and I now have two wonderful men in my life,” she continued, adding, “But Steve isn’t delusional—he knows he will always be 1B.”
Yet apparently it didn’t take much for Cooper to agree as the “Fashion Police” alum revealed the two men “get along so well.”
Page Six exclusively revealed Wednesday that Melissa, who is the daughter of late comedian Joan Rivers, was engaged to the Los Angeles-based attorney after one-and-a-half years of dating.
According to our source, Mitchel got down on one knee on a beach in Mexico last month, which Melissa confirmed during an interview with People.
“We were having dinner on the beach and there was a boat out in the water that kept turning on and off its lights,” she recalled. “I was totally absorbed in trying to figure out why the boat was doing this and not paying attention to my surroundings.”
“Steve told me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I told him the same, but I wasn’t even looking at him.”
After a while, the attorney got “annoyed” and simply whipped out the diamond sparkler, telling her, “I got you something.”

“I turned around and the ring was on the table and that’s when I went into full shock,” she remembered. “I was totally speechless when he prompted me with, ‘Well?’ I’m wearing the ring so obviously I said yes!”
The TV host, who previously vowed never to remarry, sparked engagement rumors over the weekend after she rocked up to BravoCon with a giant, 5.6-carat diamond ring on that finger.
Although the pair have kept most of their romance private, insiders told us that the twosome met a few years ago at a mental health awareness event.
“He had the guts to come up and talk to her,” our source said, “and the rest is history.”
While Melissa grew up in the public eye, Mitchel “couldn’t be any more removed from the Hollywood world,” which is “perfect for her.”
