Rosamund Pike’s dramatic look at the 2024 Golden Globes was for both fashion and protection.
The “Saltburn” star walked the red carpet on Sunday night wearing a “protective veil” after getting into a ski accident over the holidays.
“I had an accident over Christmas actually. I had a skiing accident,” she revealed during an interview with Variety. “[Its] not what you want when you’re coming to the Golden Globes on the 7th of January.”
“So on the 26th of December my face was entirely smashed up and I thought I need to do something,” she continued.
Despite her face being mostly “healed,” the 44-year-old actress decided to use the black, lace-like face covering just to be safe.
Yet Pike joked that the headpiece was fitting as it looked like something her elaborate “Saltburn” character, Elspeth Catton, would wear.
“You have to channel it, don’t you,?” she said.
She paired the “funeral-vibe” veil with a black Dior couture gown from 2019. The ankle-length dress featured a full skirt and mesh sleeves, both adorned with black floral appliqués.
Along with her face covering, Pike paired her look with black platform heels and silver jewlery.
She kept her makeup minimal and wore her hair back in slicked back, braided bun to better show off the intricate details of her mask.

The over-the-top outfit quickly became a fan-favorite look amongst fashion critics online.
“Rosamund Pike with a STELLAR start to the #GoldenGlobes red carpet,” one person tweeted.
“rosamund pike wearing a ‘protector veil’ after a ski accident…only she would do this she’s too much 😂,” another added.
“Rosamund Pike being the hottest for the 81st golden globe awards,” a third wrote alongside a video of the English actress walking the red carpet.
“kinda need rosamund pike to murder me and show up to my funeral like this #goldenglobes,” a fourth fan chimed in.
The all-black look couldn’t have been more different from the colorful number the actress wore the night before at The Golden Eve Party.
Pike looked radiant in an orange-and-pink tulle gown, which she paired with a bright pink lipstick.
The “Gone Girl” actress received her fourth Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Catton, a shallow mother, in Emerald Fennell’s dark comedy.
