Second royal accused of racism in Dutch edition of bombshell book, author blames ‘translation errors’

The name of not one, but two royal family members who had “concerns” about the skin color of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son were accidentally printed in the Dutch translation of Omid Scobie’s new book.

Dutch royal journalist Rick Evers, who obtained a copy of the since-recalled book, claimed the first name was “very specific” while the second name was “a little bit vague.”

“The first one is very clear and the official way was that it was a translation issue,” he said on Good Morning Britain Wednesday.

“There are some debates about how these passages were stated in the book. I would say how could you translate a name wrong?”

In “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival,” Scobie, 42, wrote that Markle named two people who talked about her son’s complexion in private letters she exchanged with King Charles III circa May 2021.

News of a second name comes one day after Scobie’s publisher, Xander Uitgevers, scrambled to pull copies of the Dutch language edition of the book from shelves.

“An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified,” the publisher’s managing director, Anke Roelen, said in a statement, per the BBC.

Meanwhile, Scobie appeared on television in the Netherlands to deny he included the names of the alleged “royal racists” in any edition of his bombshell book.

“There’s never been a version that I’ve produced that has names in it,” he told the RTL Boulevard show.

“The book’s available in a number of languages and unfortunately I can’t speak Dutch, so I haven’t seen the copy for myself, so if there have been any translation errors I’m sure the publisher’s got it under control.”

In the English-language version of the book — which addresses the state of the British monarchy following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022 — Scobie does not name either of the royals Markle accused of expressing “concern” about Archie’s skin color.

The author, who knows the identity of both individuals, notes that “laws in the United Kingdom prevent me from reporting who they were.”

Page Six cannot independently confirm the name that was accidentally revealed, however Dutch journalists who obtained copies of the errant book said it matches the claims made in previously released royal biographies.

A rep for the royal family has not responded to Page Six’s request for comment.

The race row dates back to March 2021 when Markle, 42, and Prince Harry sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The couple, who stepped back from their roles as senior members of the monarchy in 2020, alleged that one royal had wondered aloud “how dark” their son Archie’s skin would be when he was born in May 2019.

When Winfrey asked whether Markle thought it was “because of his race,” the “Suits” alum claimed there were “several” conversations about her eldest son’s skin.

“About how dark your baby is going to be?” the famed TV host asked.

“Potentially, and what that would mean or look like,” she replied.

Harry, 39, said he was a “bit shocked” by the comments made by his family member, however he vowed to never name the relative in question.

“[There’s a] difference between racism and unconscious bias,” he said in a January 2023 interview.

The couple — who tied the knot in May 2018 — previously ruled out Harry’s late grandparents, the Queen and Prince Philip, as the people who made the alleged comments.
