Selma Blair turned a red carpet appearance into a stylish shoutout for social advocacy.
On Tuesday evening, the “Legally Blonde” star — who has multiple sclerosis (MS) — attended the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2023 wearing a custom Lingua Franca cashmere cardigan hand-embroidered with the names of prominent disability activists.
Blair’s sweater honored Alice Wong, the founder and director of the Disability Visibility Project; Irish writer, academic, and activist Sinéad Burke; Keely Cat-Wells, disability rights activist and CEO of Making Space; president and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities Maria Town; Andraéa LaVant of LaVant Consulting; KR Liu, head of brand accessibility at Google; and the late Judy Heumann, known as the mother of the disability rights movement.
The ever-stylish “Cruel Intentions” star wore the special cardigan with a custom Isaac Mizrahi navy lace gown, diamond cuff earrings and a diamond-encrusted cane.
She recently partnered with Mizrahi on an accessible and adaptive clothing line for QVC, featuring items like a boatneck striped shirt with a shoulder zip for easy access and a silky pant with a seated fit designed with wheelchair users in mind.
Blair revealed her MS diagnosis in 2018 on social media.
“I am disabled,” she wrote at the time alongside a selfie. “I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it . And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.”

Since then, the “Cruel Intentions” star has been open and vocal about her struggles with the disease that attacks the brain and central nervous system.
In the 2021 documentary “Introducing, Selma Blair,” she gave viewers an intimate look at her battles with the autoimmune disorder and her journey to undergo a risky stem cell transplant.
Appearing on the cover of British Vogue earlier this year, Blair talked about her walking canes, calling them an “extension” of herself.
“I know it adds to visibility. So many younger people have started publicly embracing their sticks more,” she explained.
“I do think representation matters. If I can help remove stigma or over-curiosity in a crowd for someone else, then that’s great.”
Blair, who competed on “Dancing With the Stars” last year, recently revealed that she’s ready to start dating again after putting her love life on pause since her MS diagnosis.
Other celebs honored at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards included Mary J. Blige, Quinta Brunson, Millie Bobby Brown, Brooke Shields, Geena Rocero and America Ferrera.
