Sophia Bush is ready to start fresh after feeling “betrayed” by 2023.
The “One Tree Hill” alum reflected on the last year in a lengthy Instagram post Tuesday, telling her followers that she finally learned to put her “oxygen mask on first.”
“This past year humbled me, broke me, built me, betrayed me, freed me, and showed me what it means to really be alive. No more playing small,” Bush, 41, wrote alongside a photo of herself staring into the abyss.
“This year put me back in my body. I left it a long time ago, in such a way that I forgot what it felt like to inhabit my own skin.”
Bush, who filed for divorce from husband Grant Hughes after one year of marriage as she kicked off a new romance with soccer star Ashlyn Harris, said she stopped caring “about optics” so she could “invest in honesty.”
“This year sent me inward. More than I’ve ever been,” she continued. “It took me out of relationship with many of you but put me back into relationship with myself.”

The “Good Sam” star also alluded to an undisclosed illness that forced her to slow down to recover, which she said was a “gift.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you to this year that changed everything,” she concluded her essay. “That allowed me to burn what never served me, and find what does in the ashes. Charcoal is a purifier. Clarity comes like lightning in the dark.
“This is my deepest learning season yet. Thank you, a thousand times.”
Despite the turbulent year Bush had, she and Harris, 38, appear to be going strong — although the United States women’s national soccer team athlete had to deny cheating on now-estranged wife Ali Krieger.
“Let me be clear: I did not step out on my marriage,” Harris wrote on social media. “I was always faithful in my marriage, if not always totally happy.”
Harris said that she and Krieger — who share kids Sloane, 2, and Ocean, 17 months — had been privately working out the details of their separation and divorce since the summer.
The athlete didn’t let the drama stop her from enjoying Art Basel in Miami with Bush last month where they were seen cozying up at an event.
