Before Robert F. Kennedy Jr. takes a crack at running the country, he’ll have to figure out how to successfully mastermind his own birthday party.
A PAC that supports the White House hopeful this week announced a grand old celebration for Kennedy’s 70th — doubling as a fundraiser — featuring an impressive slate of “well-wisher guests” including Dionne Warwick, Andrea Bocelli, Mike Tyson and Martin Sheen.
Alas, it has already ended in catastrophe, with every last one of the starry sorts denying in the strongest possible terms that they ever intended to go to the bash, and the PAC getting embroiled in a petty public spat with Sheen over whether on not he agreed to show up.
The PAC Fighting 4 One America is producing the event and another PAC, American Values 2024, is footing the bill for the fundraiser, which is set to take place in Indian Wells, Ca., on Jan 22.
On December 28, American Values 2024 announced in a tweet that “superstar tenor Andrew Bocelli will perform” at the bash with “‘well-wisher’ guests” including Martin Sheen, Mike Tyson and Dionne Warwick.”
This, apparently, was news to Warwick. The legendary singer told us via her rep: “No, I’m not attending. No, I’m not backing him. No, no, and no!”
And as if that wasn’t clear enough, her rep sent a follow-up e-mail, writing in bold: “Ms. Warwick has NO association or affiliation whatsoever with Senator Robert F. Kennedy Jr.” They added, “She will not nor will [she ever] attend any events or fundraisers in connection with [RFK Jr.].”
A rep for Bocelli, meanwhile, confirmed he is not attending or performing at the event. And Tyson thought the event was a birthday party, not a fundraiser, and even then he had no plans to go. “Mr. Tyson was invited to RFK’s bday celebration, which he cannot attend, not a fundraiser,” his rep said
Sheen, meanwhile, wrote on Instagram Stories: “I do not endorse RFK Jr. nor will I be attending his party.” For good measure, he added on Thursday: “I whole heartedly [sic] support @joebiden and the Democratic ticket for 2024.”
But his would be hosts, apparently, weren’t about to take that lying down. A rep for Fighting 4 One America told us, “Mr. Sheen’s attendance was confirmed in writing by his representative, and we would not have included Mr. Sheen in the guest list had we not received that confirmation.”
A rep for RFK Jr.’s campaign told us they don’t have anything to do with organizing the event. “The Indian Wells fundraiser is a PAC event,” they said. “The campaign has no knowledge of who is attending and can’t confirm or deny anyone’s participation, either as entertainment or as a guest.”
RFK Jr.’s siblings Rory, Kerry, Joseph P. Kennedy II, and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend are also unlikely to be in attendance since they denounced his presidential run back in October.
“The of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country… We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous to our country,” Rory posted on Instagram.
We hear organizers behind the scenes are scurrying to secure talent for what they are hoping will be a big event.
They did not comment on whether he would be in attendance. Reps for AV2024 did not get back to us. Fighting 4 One America told us, “Performers and other celebrity guests will be announced in one of your sister publications early next week.”
We’ll believe it when we see it.
