Sussexes’ ‘cheerleader in chief’ Omid Scobie claims William ‘kept him away from royal engagements for months’ as he believed he was Prince Harry’s ’emissary’ after release of bombshell biography Finding Freedom

Harry and Meghan’s ‘cheerleader’ Omid Scobie has claimed that Prince William kept him away from royal engagements ‘for months’ after the release of a biography of the couple, Finding Freedom.

Mr Scobie, 42, who co-wrote the work, said in an interview with a French magazine that Megxit was the ‘biggest crisis the Windsors had experienced since the Diana period’, and that the Prince of Wales assumed he was an ’emissary’ for his brother in the book’s fallout.

It came as new extracts from the reporter’s book Endgame were revealed in Paris Match ahead of its release on Tuesday.

The new content suggests that Prince Harry may be ready to reconciliate with the rest of his family, although Endgame’s teased bombshells could threaten to reopen old wounds.

Today, Buckingham Palace and representatives for the Prince of Wales told MailOnline they were ‘not commenting’ on the latest extracts published by Paris Match, nor claims Mr Scobie made in an accompanying interview with the publication. MailOnline has contacted Archewell for comment.

In extracts of Endgame shared today with Paris Match, Mr Scobie also claims…

  • Meghan decided against attending King Charles’ coronation because she did not want to ‘dive back into the soap opera of the court’;
  • Despite this, she and Harry still keep him ‘up to date’ by ‘sending him photos of their children’; Harry told his father ‘don’t you want to see your grandchildren anymore’ after Charles evicted him from Frogmore Cottage;
  • Charles told members of the Royal Family not to trust Harry following the publication of Spare;
  • Harry is ‘ready to forget’ the past in another sign of a possible olive branch offered by the couple.

In an interview in the magazine, Mr Scobie said that after the publication of Finding Freedom he noticed ‘everything was put to the test’ – citing changes to his relationships and contacts within the royal family.

He said: ‘William even kept me away from his engagements for several months, thinking I was Harry’s emissary.

‘He had to hire a new head of communications, who met with me and told me that he wanted to make a clean sweep of the past. But there were times when I was unable to fully practice my profession because of the repercussions of this book.’

The book could threaten to derail signs that the family could be headed for a greater understanding, as it is expected to brand Charles ‘unpopular’, William ‘power hungry’ and say Harry was ‘betrayed by his own family’.

MailOnline understands that Meghan and Harry categorically deny any suggestion they are ‘affiliated’ with the book or that Mr Scobie, who has been friendly with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and co-wrote their biography Finding Freedom, is part of the ‘Sussex Camp’.

The denial came after Harry and Meghan’s olive branch to the King on his 75th birthday.

The Duchess of Sussex is also said to have spoken to her father-in-law from their home in California while the couple’s children Archie, four, and Lilibet, two, recorded a video of themselves singing happy birthday to their grandfather.

Mr Scobie has previously denied his new book is ‘Harry and Meghan’s’ and instead claimed it will tell the ‘current state of the British Royal Family’.

It comes hours after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex distanced themselves from the book, with insiders indicating to MailOnline they had nothing to do with it.

Royal courtiers are said to be furious over the claims made by Mr Scobie, who alleges that Prince William ignored the Duke of Sussex’s calls as he raced to be at the Queen’s bedside in Scotland in September last year.

In response it has been reported that Mr Scobie could be cut loose by the Sussexes and their inner circle.

Royal insiders have also torn into Mr Scobie’s claims that Prince William ignored his brother’s calls as the late Queen lay dying in Balmoral last year.

They are said to be furious over the claims made by Harry and Meghan’s biographer Omid Scobie, who alleges that the Prince of Wales ignored the Duke of Sussex’s calls as he raced to be at the Queen’s bedside in Scotland in September last year.

In an excerpt, Mr Scobie alleges that Prince Harry was ‘kept in the dark’ about the Queen’s health in the hours before she died, and that Prince William feels that he has ‘lost Harry and doesn’t want to know this version of him’.

Mr Scobie said Harry, 39, and his 42-year-old wife Meghan had ‘no idea’ the Royal Family were preparing for the Queen’s death last year.

Harry sent a text message to his brother William asking how he and Kate planned to travel to Scotland and whether they could travel together but got no response, Mr Scobie claims.
