Before Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert called it quits in 2023, the singer and NBA player spent a decade together.
As the couple collaborated both in business and in parenting over the years, they often shared their love on social media.
“There isn’t a day, minute, second or breath that I am not in love with you,” Taylor wrote via Instagram for their sixth anniversary in October 2022, concluding that they had “forever … to go.”
That same year, Shumpert gave Taylor a 1979 Corvette to celebrate their union.
“Yes, I could’ve gotten you a brand new car…but this car will symbolize a relationship that’s been thru it all,” the athlete explained. “The nostalgia of the corvette you wanted is heard but I want you to dress this one up little by little like we’ve done in this 6 years and make sure this muff—ka ride forever!”

First impression
Taylor met Shumpert at a 2011 party, telling Wendy Williams the origin story seven years later.
“I did not like him at first,” the actress, who was in a relationship at the time, admitted. “He had just got drafted. He was young and doing a lot. … He was drunk and had his shirt off.”
Similarly, she told VladTV viewers in 2014 that the Cleveland Cavaliers player “was always so turned up, so outspoken, and full of personality.”
Change of heart
In 2013, Taylor fell for Shumpert while helping him recover from knee surgery.
“The funny part was [that we were] two people who weren’t looking for anything but wound up together,” she explained on VladTV.
The couple didn’t make their romance Instagram-official until June of the following year. They made their red carpet debut at the BET Hip Hop Awards in September 2014.
Major milestones
2015 was a major year for Taylor and Shumpert as they revealed pregnancy and engagement news back-to-back.
The shooting guard shared an ultrasound photo in September of that year, writing, “I couldn’t be happier than to share my first child with the woman I intended to have my family with.”
Two months later, the pregnant star debuted her ruby engagement ring via Instagram.
From mom and dad
The “Teyana & Iman” alums’ first child, daughter Junie, was born in their bathroom one month early, with Shumpert delivering her.
“She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone!” the new mom told her Instagram followers in December 2015. “Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head. It took two 10-count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr. and she entered this world into his bare hands!
“He handed her to me wrapped in our bath towel and wiped her face for me to see what LOVE really is,” Taylor continued. “Our family is complete. Her blueprint will be unmatched.”
… To bride and groom
The reality stars secretly tied the knot, with Taylor announcing their nuptials on “The Wendy Williams Show” in September 2016.
The bride told GQ readers the following year that the ceremony took place in front of the bathroom where Junie joined the family.
“Pretty much, we got married at the crime scene,” she joked. “It was a really special moment to get married in that home.”
Girl gang
Taylor revealed in June 2020 that baby No. 2 was on the way, debuting her bump in the “Wake Up Love” music video.
Three months later, daughter Rue arrived one day after the pregnant star’s baby shower. She was also born in the bathroom.
“She didn’t make the party but she managed to make the next day her birthdate!!!” Shumpert gushed in September 2020.
Showing support
Taylor and Shumpert continued to cheer each other on during career milestones, with the model celebrating her husband’s “Dancing With the Stars” win in November 2021.
The couple also made headlines for multiple projects together, from a Skims campaign in December 2021 to an Ebony magazine cover in April 2022.
As for their home life, Shumpert honored his wife on Mother’s Day as a parent of “strength, persistence and patience.”
End of an era
When Taylor revealed her and Shumpert’s separation in September 2023, she clarified that cheating was “1000 percent” not the cause of their breakup.
“We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children,” she wrote. “Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT.”
News broke two months later that the songwriter secretly filed for divorce in January 2023 and claimed her “condescending and manipulative” ex showed “extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.”
