“The crown is a symbol of permanence. It’s something you are, not what you do…”
They’re the first words uttered by Imelda Staunton as she reprises her iconic role of the late Queen Elizabeth II in the sixth and final series of Netflix’s The Crown.
The hit series which follows the story of the British royal family – and all the scandals in between – is due to take its final bow and we now know what it will look like thanks to a teaser trailer released for fans.

The sad duty of The Queen
The brief clip shows Imelda as Her Majesty bracing herself for what appears to be a balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace. A duty she has done for many years and has become second nature in her life.
As we follow the scene, we see images of the Queen through the ages. An image of Claire Foy as a young Queen Elizabeth sits proudly in a frame next to another of Olivia Colman.
“Some portion of our natural selves is always is always lost. We have all made sacrifices, it is not a choice. It is a duty,” Olivia, who played the Queen in the third and fourth seasons, can be heard adding.
We then hear Imelda add tearfully: “But what about the life that I put aside? The woman… I put aside.”

When the final chapter of The Crown begins
In what felt like a very long wait, die-hard fans will be glad to know the final installment is set to hit our screens on November 16th and will be split into two parts with the second airing on December 14th.
The first part will feature four episodes and will cover the late 90s and early 2000s, including Princess Diana’s tragic and fatal car crash in Paris, while the second part (spread across six episodes) will highlight Prince William’s romance with Kate Middleton while studying at St Andrew’s.
Across all episodes, the audience will also see how The Queen has changed through the decades on the thrown as well as all the sacrifices she has had to make personally as Monarch.

Major star pulls out of final series
The highly-anticipated upcoming season has already begun with a little drama of its own, with one star pulling out of the new episodes.
The royal drama’s scriptwriters were forced to do a major rewrite of the season in order to make it work without actress Gillian Anderson, who plays British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The Sun reported that the series failed to get the Hollywood star back on board despite their best efforts because of scheduling issues.
Producers hoped that she would appear in the upcoming season and had already included her character in episodes covering Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s golden wedding anniversary.
In the original script, the Queen and Prince are seated in front of guests (including Thatcher) as the Prince delivers a speech on the secret to a happy marriage.
