Whoopi Goldberg defends Kate Middleton editing photo: It’s ‘something everyone does’

Whoopi Goldberg didn’t understand why people were getting upset over Kate Middleton admitting to editing a photo with her kids after it went viral for its Photoshop errors.

“I’m sorry, I know very few people who don’t manipulate their own photos. I mean all your gotta do is swipe. Those editors swipe, God knows people look how those photos look,” Goldberg said on Monday’s episode of “The View.”

Goldberg’s co-host Sara Haines chimed in and argued that there’s a difference between “filtering” and Photoshopping a picture. However, Goldberg disagreed and exclaimed, “She’s doing the same thing, she’s doing the same thing!”

“You know what, I have to tell you, she may be the future queen, she’s still an amateur photographer,” Goldberg said. “That’s what they do!”

The “Ghost” actress then turned to her co-hosts and sarcastically said, “I’m sure that none of you have ever tampered with your [photos].”

“Listen, if manipulating pictures was a crime, the Kardashians, my best friend and I would be in jail for the rest of our lives,” Ana Navarro admitted.

The audience laughed while Goldberg, 68, interjected, “Didn’t I just say that this is something that everyone does? Didn’t I just say that people do this all the time?!”

Goldberg continued defending the Princess of Wales, 42, and didn’t understand why people were still upset, since Middleton said, “Listen, I manipulated the pictures, I’m sorry.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin countered that the edited photo “feeds fuel to this fire of conspiracies” –– referring to fans questioning Middleton’s whereabouts after her abdominal surgery in January –– and suggested Middleton release a selfie video to quiet the conspiracists.

“She doesn’t need to do it! She doesn’t need to do it!” Goldberg said of Middleton sharing a video showing her current status.

The “Sister Act” star explained how this situation is personal to her, because she’s previously “been on the cover of magazines” where her wrinkles had been edited out, her “color lightened up” and even gotten a “donkey nose on my face.”

“People can do anything they want to do with pictures –– this should not be a shock,” she reiterated.

Haines argued that Middleton shared the photo for a Mother’s Day social media post –– and not a magazine cover.

“What’s the difference between you taking a picture of you, and you editing it?” she asked her co-hosts.

Middleton issued the apology on Monday after several people noticed editing mistakes in the photo, and several photo agencies issued a “kill notice” to media outlets asking them to delete the picture.

“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused,” she wrote on Twitter on Monday.

“I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

The photo in question showed the royal sitting in the middle as her and Prince William’s three children — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 — posed beside her.
