My relationship was so toxic that it made me physically SICK for months – I thought I was having a heart attack but I just needed to dump my boyfriend

An influencer has gone viral after claiming her body rejected her toxic relationship with the man she considered to be her ‘future husband.’

Lyss Boss, 30, from New York, is the host of the podcast Date Yourself Instead, a self-love series in which she opens up about what she has learned from her relationship experiences.

The content creator shares snippets about her past heartbreaks on the podcast’s official TikTok page, which has more than 200,000 followers.

In a recent clip, Lyss alleged that the stress of being with her ex-boyfriend caused her to become physically sick.

‘”He was my future husband,”‘ she began the on-screen text. ‘I had a stomach ache every day, constant anxiety for no reason, bloated like crazy, and had to get an EKG scan for my heart [because] I was so stressed.

‘My body was rejecting the relationship.’

The video, which shows her swimming in a red bikini, has been viewed more than 2.7 million times and has received hundreds of comments.

Lyss’s physical symptoms struck a chord with many people who insisted that they have had similar ailments while they were in toxic relationships.

‘Same! With panic attacks, digestive issues, insomnia, nausea, palpitations, back pain. All gone when we got divorced!’ one woman wrote.

‘This happened to me!! Nobody believed me…it’s a thing,’ another insisted.

‘Yes!! Constant anxiety, would wake up at 2-3 am. Felt super nervous and could never hold down any food. Broke up and it all went away,’ someone else shared.

It’s common for toxic relationships to cause such physical symptoms, according to Dr. Michael Lam, an adrenal fatigue expert.

‘Each stressful interaction in your toxic relationships will trigger cortisol production, and your adrenals will become exhausted after a while. This is how you end up getting Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome (AFS), even if you’re leading an otherwise healthy lifestyle,’ he explained on his website.

‘Symptoms of AFS include fatigue, weight gain, sleep problems, brain fog, anxiety, mild depression, dry skin, hair loss, loss of libido, PMS, infertility, estrogen dominance, lowered immunity, hypoglycemia, salt and sugar cravings, food and drug sensitivities, and heart palpitations.’

Lyss opened up about how her toxic relationship made her sick in a February episode of her podcast, saying she thought her ex was her soulmate.

The host explained they had dated for a ‘very long time’ and were madly in love, but they were torn apart by external factors.

She wasn’t ready to go into detail at the time, but in the most recent episode, she shared that he grew up in an orthodox religious community that wouldn’t accept him marrying her, even if she converted.

‘We were on this high of life, just like super in love, and then it kind of all came crashing down really really fast,’ she said. ‘As it started crashing down and as things started to get super rocky, I started to get these crazy chronic yeast infections.’

'When you're in toxic situations, and you're really not with the right person, you're body will f*****g speak to you. Your body will speak out,' she insisted

Lyss insisted the infections were so painful that she ‘could not walk.’

‘I felt super sick. I always had stomach aches. I always just felt nauseous and bloated and fatigued. I just felt so weird,’ she explained. ‘I couldn’t put my finger on it. I didn’t really know what was happening.’

Lyss said she tried switching up her diet and was prescribed medication, but it only temporarily masked her symptoms.

‘I started getting these stabbing heart pains in my chest. I felt like I was having a heart attack,’ she recalled. ‘I swear to God. It was the craziest thing ever. My chest would tighten and I would have this like stabbing knife cutting through my chest — it felt like that.’

Lyss said she went to the doctor and had an electrocardiogram (EKG) and a chest scan, but all of the tests came back normal. Her symptoms were chalked up to stress, although she didn’t believe it at the time.

‘After months and months of having crazy, chronic health issues, when I broke up with this person, all of the health issues went away,’ she claimed.

‘When you’re in toxic situations, and you’re really not with the right person, you’re body will f*****g speak to you. Your body will speak out,’ she added.

‘If you’re not going to listen to your logic and not going to listen to your thoughts telling you to get out, your body’s going to try to tell you to get out physically. And I learned that the hard way.’
