The little known ‘happy button’ in your ear revealed: Doctor’s urgent warning as thousands attempt ‘eargasms’

  • Dr Karan reveals how to have an eargasm
  • Not everyone can have one

A doctor has revealed exactly why some people feel pleasure when they are cleaning out their ears – likening the feeling to that of an orgasm.

NHS GP Dr Karan explained sticking things into your ears can stimulate the vagus nerve, causing an ‘ear boner’ which can lead to an ‘eargasm’.

The doctor, who reveals weird medical facts online, explained stimulating the vagus nerve inside the ear makes the surrounding tissue ‘swell’ just like it does in the genital region.

But not everyone experiences the pleasure.

‘The happy button in your ear hole is a glitch,’ he explained.

Other people have an annoying response to the button being pushed.

‘Some people who stick things in their ears trigger an automatic cough.’

He brought up the topic of eargasms after a woman’s video of herself stimulating the sensitive spot went viral.

In the video, the woman appeared to experience the eargasm after poking the hidden spot with a cotton swab.

‘If we aren’t supposed to put things in our ears then why did evolution put a happy button in there?’ she asked.

Dr Karan explained the vagus nerve is responsible for carrying information about touch and sensation through to the brain.

‘For those with the cough glitch, if you stick something inside your ear pipes your brain thinks it is something in your throat then triggers a cough to clear the threat,’ he said.

‘A lucky few get eargasms. Stimulating the vagus nerve leads to a parasynthetic response and a calming effect similar to the other type of ‘gasms seen.’

He said that is why the ears are considered erogenous zones.

The good news is you don’t need to ‘stick things’ into your ears to trigger the pleasure zone.

‘This can be replicated not just with touch but with certain types of music, humming and even a gentle woosa of the ears,’ he said.

‘If you want to get freaky with your ears please do, just leave the Q-tips out of it,’ he said.

People were quick to comment on the doctor’s explanation.

‘Hit different knowing there is erectile tissue in my ear, and I moan at the same time,’ one woman said.

‘I have done this in public. So technically I orgasmed in public without knowing,’ she added.

Others made jokes, with one woman saying: ‘I gag and almost throw up if I go too deep.’

What is the vagus nerve?

The vagus nerve, also known as the vagal nerves, are the main nerves of your parasympathetic nervous system.

This system controls specific body functions such as your digestion, heart rate and immune system.

These functions are involuntary, meaning you can’t consciously control them.

The vagus nerve sends signals back to the brain, where our brain interprets the data and creates either emotion or alters one’s mental arousal state.

For example, if the breathing rate, heart rate and muscular tone are high, then the brain will interpret this as a state requiring an elevated level of psychological arousal.

‘Cotton buds are cheaper than a vibrator, and disposable,’ one woman laughed.

Some were shocked ‘not everyone’ thinks Q-tipping ‘feels amazing’.

Some people appeared to suffer from both ‘glitches’.

‘Help. One ear feels amazing, the other one makes me cough. I think I am broken,’ one woman said.

‘I thought I was the only person in the world with the two,’ agreed another.

Three women said the left ear makes them cough while the right ear feels great.
