Urgent ‘do not eat’ warning for much-loved chocolate brand over fears it may contain GLASS

Tiny pieces of glass may be lurking in chocolate sold by one of Britain’s best-loved chocolatiers. 

Hotel Chocolat has urgently recalled its £15 Choose Your Poison product as a result of the possible presence.

Meanwhile, food safety watchdogs have sent out an alert urging Brits not to eat the sweet treat.

The product — consisting of 36 filled chocolates in a glass flask with cork stopper —is sold in Hotel Chocolat’s own stores, as well as online. 

John Lewis also stocks the offending 160g treat.

Only three batches are affected by the manufacturing error, all of which have a best before date of January 2024 and were on sale in September.

In its own alert, Hotel Chocolat said the items ‘may contain a foreign body within the container which could cause harm if inadvertently consumed’.

It did not explain how tiny pieces of glass may have ended up in the product. 

The Food Standards Agency (FSA), which sent out a warning to consumers, said the ‘possible presence of glass makes this product unsafe to eat’. 

It added: ‘If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.’

The move comes after Costa urgently recalled several types of sandwich and wraps earlier this month over fears they contained small stones. 

The Costa Chicken & Bacon Caesar Wrap, Southern Fried Chicken Wrap, Chicken Salad Sandwich and BLT Sandwich were all affected.
