Urgent ‘do not eat’ warning for trendy granola sold in Tesco, Waitrose and Ocado as food safety chiefs warn it may contain STONES

Food safety watchdogs have put a ‘do not eat’ warning on Rude Health’s low sugar almond and hazelnut granola, which costs up to £3.70

A trendy granola sold at the likes of Tesco, Waitrose and Ocado has been urgently recalled over fears it may contain stones. 

Food safety watchdogs have put a ‘do not eat’ warning on Rude Health’s low sugar almond and hazelnut granola, which costs up to £3.70.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said that the possible presence of stones made it ‘unsafe to eat’.

It said: ‘This product may contain small stones which could be a choking hazard and could possibly cause harm if bitten.’

Rude Health has recalled three batches with best before dates of April 17, May 11 and June 12, 2024.

No other products are affected, the firm said. 

Rude Health markets the 400g box of granola, which contains 2g of sugar per serving, as being plant-based. 

It boasts that it is made with ‘brilliant ingredients’ and ‘nothing artificial’. 

A product description on Waitrose reads: ‘There’s so much texture and flavour in this Granola that you won’t notice that we’ve taken out some of the sweet stuff. 

‘Don’t worry, there’s nothing artificial replacing it, just almonds and hazelnuts, baked with our oats for a satisfying, delicious crunch.’

Any customer who has bought the affected granola, sold in a blue box, can return it to store for a full refund.

It comes after packs of Krispy Kreme doughnuts were last week recalled because they may have contained peanuts not mentioned on the label. 

The packaging error only affected the White Chocolate and Raspberry Summer four-pack.

Food safety watchdogs warned the product posed a ‘possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts’.
