Alphonso Davies responds to Real Madrid transfer speculation

Alphonso Davies has revealed he is “very comfortable” at Bayern Munich despite insistent speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid.

Davies’ contract at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer of 2025 and he has not yet agreed terms over a fresh deal in Bavaria.

Despite reports from across Europe suggesting Madrid will make a play for Davies later in 2024 – at which point he could have only a year left to run on his contract – David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed last week Bayern’s offer to the left-back is more lucrative and at this stage he is expected to stay with the Bundesliga champions.

In an interview with German outlet Kicker, Davies admitted he is indeed happy at Bayern.

“I feel very comfortable here. I play in an incredible team at one of the absolute top clubs in Europe. I stay focused and give everything for the team and our fans,” he said.

WILL THE JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW DELIVER?

Kicker go on to report that some high-ranking officials at Bayern believe speculation over Davies’ future and Madrid’s interest have had a negative impact on his performances in recent months. He returned to form at the weekend with a star showing in their 3-2 win at Augsburg, grabbing a goal for his efforts.

Despite criticisms of his displays this season, Davies – who only turned 23 in November – was defiant in his belief that he is a consistent performer.

“In 2020, nobody really had me on their list, I was a relatively unknown quantity and I delivered. After that, the expectations of me were of course greater,” he added.

“I think that on the whole I did justice to this, but of course not always, not in every game. There are very few players who really always manage to do that throughout their career.

“My style of play has changed a little since then. A little less tricks, a little less dribbling, a little less risk. But I understand other things better today than I did four years ago. Of course I have more experience today. But I’m still young and I want to continue learning and improving.”
