Andy Robertson coy on Liverpool return date following shoulder surgery

Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson did not want to put a timeframe on when he might return to action following successful on a shoulder injury but admitted he is “progressing well”.

The full-back dislocated his shoulder during a collision with Unai Simon in Scotland’s defeat to Spain during the October international break.

Amid concerns that the injury could reoccur in the future, Robertson was forced to undergo surgery to correct the issue, ruling the 29-year-old out of action for an extended period of time.

Scotland have qualified for Euro 2024 alongside Spain, and Robertson watched on as they drew 3-3 with Norway in their final Group A game.

Providing an update to ViaPlay Sports about how his recovery is going and a potential timeline of returning, Robertson said: “Yeah, getting there, slowly but surely. Surgery was a success, which was the main thing, no complications from it. So far, so good. I think I’m about three weeks since my surgery now, so everything is progressing well. Just bit by bit, got to take it week by week.

“Everything has gone well up to this point and hopefully that continues and then hopefully before we know it I’ll be back on the grass.

“I’ve not looked that far ahead yet [to a possible return date]. I’m just trying to take it week by week. I’m trying to not get frustrated, I’m not the best [when] injured. I’m trying to just take small wins every single week.

“I don’t want to put a game in mind and then I don’t make it or I come back before then. I’m just taking it slowly but surely just now, and then there’ll be a time to start pushing it – and when that comes, I’ll try to get on the pitch as quickly as I can.”

In Robertson’s absence, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has utilised Kostas Tsimikas as his preferred option at left-back in recent weeks. Luckily for the Reds, the Greek international – who put pen to paper on a new contract at Anfield – has impressed while deputising, bagging two assists during a particularly impressive outing against Brentford prior to the November internationals.
