Barcelona ‘growing concerned’ over latest Pedri injury

Barcelona are said to be worried Pedri’s latest injury could keep him sidelined for another month, which would rule him out of the Spanish Supercopa.

Pedri was diagnosed with a “slight muscle injury” on December 19 and missed the 3-2 victory over Almeria as well as the friendly against Club America, but he was initially expected to return in time for the semi-final clash with Osasuna on January 11.

However, Mundo Deportivo state there are fresh concerns about Pedri’s fitness and medical staff do not expect the midfielder back before the end of January.

Barcelona take on Pedri’s former employers Las Palmas on January 4 and also have a Copa del Rey clash with Barbastro to look forward to before jetting off for the Supercopa, but it appears as though Pedri will also miss those games.

A return at the end of January would also keep Pedri sidelined for La Liga clashes with Real Betis, Villarreal and Osasuna. Alaves will be Barcelona’s opponents in the first weekend of February.

Sport expect Barcelona to review their entire medical procedures amid growing concerns over Pedri’s seemingly constant battles with injury.

The 21-year-old only returned from two months out with a hamstring problem in November and missed over 100 days of the 2022/23 season through various fitness issues.

Questions have long been asked of Barcelona’s treatment of Pedri, who famously played 73 games for club and country across the 2020/21 campaign before succumbing to hamstring problems the following year.

Barcelona officials are now expected to review the entire process surrounding Pedri’s management with a view to finally finding a solution to his ongoing fitness battle.
