Bayern Munich 4-2 Heidenheim: Harry Kane nets stunning brace to continue tremendous Bundesliga start

Harry Kane’s fine start to life at Bayern Munich continued with a brilliant double in their 4-2 win at home to Heidenheim.

Thomas Tuchel’s men head into the November international break on a high after earning a third successive win in all competitions off the back of their humiliating DFB-Pokal exit at the hands of third-tier Saarbrucken.

The reigning Bundesliga champions surrendered a two-goal lead in the second half but showed their quality to go ahead again late on and secure the three points.

Bayern opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Kane netted possibly his finest goal for the club so far since his summer move from Tottenham Hotspur. The England captain took a full-throttle pass from Leroy Sane in stride, swivelled away from his man and picked out the far corner from just inside the box.

Towards the end of the first half, the same duo punished Heidenheim. Sane’s out-swinging corner seemed rather deep, but Kane was there waiting to rise high and head into the top corner.

Kane has now scored 21 goals in 16 games across all competitions for Bayern this season, including 10 in his last four matches alone.

Bayern took their foot off the accelerator as the game went on and were punished when Heidenheim pulled one back on 67 minutes, breaking at pace and allowing Tim Kleindienst to convert at the back post from a cross.

Just minutes later, Heidenheim were level. Kim Min-jae’s sloppy pass from the back was picked off by Jan-Niklas Beste, who raced towards the 18-yard box and picked out the top corner via a deflection off of the South Korean to silence the Allianz Arena.

But Heidenheim weren’t level for too long. A low cross into the visitors’ box caused chaos, particularly when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s blocked shot pinball’d all over the place, with the ball falling kindly for Raphael Guerreiro to slam home his first goal for Bayern.

Bayern’s victory was secured when they added a fourth on the counter attack. Sane did tremendously well to carry the ball up the pitch following a Heidenheim corner, with Kane picking up the slack after the winger was swarmed by defenders. Play was switched to the right to Mathys Tel, whose delicate cross was headed home by Choupo-Moting.

Saturday’s win has sent Bayern back to the top of the Bundesliga ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s match with Union Berlin on Sunday. Xabi Alonso’s side will return to the summit with three points.
