Newcastle will look to put their European struggles and vast injury issues to one side when they visit Bournemouth in Saturday evening’s Premier League clash.
The Magpies slipped to the bottom of their Champions League group with a second midweek defeat to Borussia Dortmund but have gone unbeaten in the English top flight since early September, most recently edging Arsenal 1-0.
Bournemouth got their first league win of the season against Burnley but couldn’t avoid a hiding last time out at Manchester City, going down 6-1 losers.
Here’s 90min’s preview of the game on Saturday night.

Neto’s injury means Andrei Radu has stepped into the goalkeeper jersey in recent weeks and will continue to do so here. USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams remains sidelined, while Ryan Fredericks and Emiliano Marcondes are both doubtful to feature.
Midfielder Alex Scott is waiting for medical checks after being brought off at the Etihad, having only just recovered from a knee problem.
The Cherries opted for a back five in defeat to City but may revert to their more familiar 4-2-3-1 formation at home as they aim for a second consecutive league win at Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth predicted lineup vs Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Radu; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Rothwell, Billing; Semenyo, Christie, Tavernier; Solanke.
The injuries are piling up for Eddie Howe and Newcastle, with a vast number of first-team squad members unavailable for the trip to the south coast.
Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Elliot Anderson have been sidelined recently and have since been joined by Matt Targett, Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy. Sandro Tonali remains banned while Bruno Guimaraes has to serve a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation.
Callum Wilson is a doubt after picking up a knock in the Champions League, so Anthony Gordon may be tasked with leading the forward line.
Newcastle predicted lineup vs Bournemouth (4-3-3): Pope; Livramento, Schar, Lascelles, Trippier; Willock, Longstaff, Joelinton; Almiron, Gordon, Hall.
Magpies manager Howe has close to a full team unavailable to him on Saturday night but his side have managed to pick up points consistently despite their many fitness issues.
Bournemouth had no answer to Man City’s ruthless clinical edge in their last fixture but should get more of a footing here at home, even if they are underdogs to take something from the game.
Newcastle’s resilience will certainly be tested with first choice players absent and more untested squad options forced into action, but they should have few problems disposing of a Bournemouth side with only one league win this season.
Prediction: Bournemouth 0-2 Newcastle
