Carlo Ancelotti signs new Real Madrid contract

Real Madrid have confirmed manager Carlo Ancelotti has signed a new contract until 2026.

The Italian coach had been publicly targeted by the Brazil national team, with high-ranking officials making no secret of their desire to lure Ancelotti away once his previous contract with Madrid expired at the end of the current season.

90min understands Ancelotti did have a preliminary agreement to take charge of Brazil if Madrid declined to renew his contract, but the Spanish side have now put the uncertainty to bed by tying the boss down to a new deal.

“Real Madrid CF and Carlo Ancelotti have agreed to extend our coach’s contract until June 30, 2026,” a statement read.

“In his five seasons as coach of Real Madrid, he has won 10 titles: 2 Champions League, 2 Club World Cups, 2 European Super Cups, 1 League, 2 Copas del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.

“Carlo Ancelotti is the only coach to have won 4 European Cups and the one to have achieved the most victories in the history of this competition (118), and he is also the first coach to win the five major European Leagues (Italy, England, France , Germany and Spain).”

Ancelotti teased an update on his future last month in the same press conference in which he publicly touted Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as a possible successor at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid officials had also been working on a preliminary list of potential targets if Ancelotti did depart, with Castilla chief Raul and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi both under consideration, but the current playing squad made it clear they wanted to continue working with Ancelotti.

Club president Florentino Perez remains a huge fan of Ancelotti’s man management skills and, with some significant changes to the playing squad on the horizon in 2024, the decision was made to extend Ancelotti’s deal.

Endrick will arrive this summer and Madrid are hopeful of seeing him join alongside Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies and Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.
