Castrol Save of the Month nominees – October 2023

Premier League’s goalkeepers were once again at their best in October once again.

Throughout the month, the men between the sticks made wonderful save, after wonderful save, after wonderful save.

Here’s the six saves that have made the October Castrol Save of the Month shortlist:

The winner of the August award has made some stunning saves in the early months of this season, and the one he made to deny Simon Adingra at the start of October was up there with the best of them.

Alisson was on hand to make himself big and prevent a decent effort from Adingra from close range from nestling in the bottom right corner of the net.

West Foderingham has been the busiest goalkeeper in the Premier League thus far this season, making 50 saves in total.

The save that got the nod for a nomination for Castrol Save of the Month was one he made against Manchester United.

With the scores locked level, Foderingham instinctively raced off his line to tip a swivelling Rasmus Hojlund effort brilliantly round the post.

Having earned a nomination in August, new West Ham United number one Alphonse Areola has earned another this month having made a stunning save at Villa Park.

The French goalkeeper showcased his cat-like reflexes to reach up and acrobatically tip a thunderous long-range effort from Douglas Luiz over the crossbar.

It’s fair to say that Tottenham fans are delighted with the start Guglielmo Vicario has made in north London – and it’s easy to see why.

The Italian made a sublime save in October in Tottenham’s win over Fulham, diving to his left to get a strong hand on a Joao Palhinha header which looked destined for the net.

Thomas Kaminski had to be at his very best to deny Ollie Watkins what looked like a certain goal early in Luton Town’s recent clash with Aston Villa.

The goalkeeper tracked a low drilled cross from the right flank before diving to his right to deflect Ollie Watkins’ first time effort on goal clear of danger.

Two saves worthy of nomination this month: Areola had quite the October.

His second top class stop came against Everton, when he got down brilliantly to his left to tip an Abdoulaye Doucoure half-volley around the post.
