Chelsea predicted lineup vs Luton Town

Things have not quite gone to plan for Chelsea under new boss Mauricio Pochettino so far. The Blues have taken just one point from their opening two Premier League matches, despite spending big in the transfer market again.

A 1-1 draw with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the new campaign was followed by a disheartening 3-1 defeat at West Ham United last time out, and Pochettino will be looking for his first competitive victory as Chelsea boss when his side host newly promoted Luton Town on Friday.

The Blues have not played particularly poorly in either match and are arguably unlucky to not have more points on the board, but the Premier League is ruthless and things need to change fast.

Here is how Pochettino could line up against Luton to earn his first three points as Chelsea boss.

GK: Robert Sanchez – With a deal for Djordje Petrovic imminent, Sanchez now has competition for his starting berth. The Spaniard has done well so far for Chelsea and will have to maintain a high standard against Luton.

CB: Axel Disasi – A debut goal against Liverpool was followed by a more difficult 90 minutes against West Ham, but the new Chelsea man has shown enough to please Pochettino so far.

CB: Thiago Silva – Still the authority figure in a youthful Chelsea team despite not having the armband, the Brazilian continues to set a positive example for his centre-back partners.

CB: Levi Colwill – Has been impressive following his promotion to the starting lineup and there is little chance he loses his place in the team, especially with Chelsea’s current centre-back injuries.

RM: Malo Gusto – Reece James’ injury has benefitted the new Chelsea signing who has been fairly quiet in both his Blues appearances so far. Always unlikely to fill James’ shoes, but more is needed from Gusto down the right flank.

CM: Moises Caicedo – It may have been a disastrous start to life at Chelsea for the new £115m man, but the Ecuadorian is still a phenomenal player and his debut is sure to be nothing more than a blip.

CM: Enzo Fernandez – Well, he may not be on penalties anymore, but he’s sure to start. One of the shining lights of Chelsea’s opening games, especially against Liverpool, and will only improve once he builds a partnership with Caicedo.

LM: Ben Chilwell – While Gusto and Chilwell may operate more like wing-backs at times, their advanced roles will turn them into wide players when Chelsea are in possession. Chilwell has been incredibly forward-thinking in his opening games and has shown his quality down the left flank.

AM: Raheem Sterling – By far and away Chelsea’s best player against West Ham and looked back to his electric best. Pochettino appears to be getting the best out of the former Manchester City man.

AM: Mykhailo Mudryk – Came on following Carney Cukwuemeka’s injury against West Ham and may be offered his first start of the season. Mudryk still looks a little lost in the Premier League, but has shown glimpses of his quality.

ST: Nicolas Jackson – The forward has already proved himself to be an absolute handful for opposition defenders, but needs to add greater end product.
