FA Cup fourth round winners: Who is in the fifth round draw?

Supporters up and down the country have enjoyed another weekend of FA Cup football, with clubs vying for a place in the fifth round of the competition.

We have had a wide range of matches so far, including giant-killings, dramatic late winners and, well, drab goalless affairs. There have been plenty of highs and lows for this year’s participants in the fourth round.

As the FA Cup continues to provide its fabled magic, let’s take a look at who has booked their spot in the next round of England’s oldest cup competition.

While not all FA Cup ties have been played yet, listed below are the sides that have progressed to the fifth round:

While not universally popular, especially among Premier League clubs, replays are in use during the fourth round. As a result, several teams face either exciting or unwanted replays to book their spot in the next round, with those games set to take place in early February.

The following matches were drawn and will therefore need to be replayed.

Bournemouth kicked the FA Cup fourth round off with a bang when they hammered Swansea City 5-0 on the south coast, all five of their goals coming in the first half. Friday was slightly less eventful despite some promising clashes, with only three goals scored across four fixtures.

Chelsea and Aston Villa played out a goalless draw, as did Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, while Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with fellow second tier side Coventry City. Holders Manchester City needed a late goal to get past Tottenham Hotspur in the biggest blockbuster tie of the round.

Saturday produced one of the most memorable results of recent FA Cup history, sixth-tier Maidstone United beating Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town 2-1 at Portman Road. The minnows had just two shots to their opponents’ 38 but still pulled off an incredible upset.

There were also wins for Luton Town, Brighton, Leicester City and Newcastle United, while Leeds United couldn’t overcome Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road.

Sunday brings another four fourth-round fixtures as well as the draw for the last 16, which will take place shortly before Liverpool kick off against Norwich City.

The day begins with a highly anticipated Black Country derby between West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers before ending with Manchester United’s trip to Newport County. The Exiles may be littered with United fans but their manager Graham Coughlan will be affording his boyhood club no luxuries. “There’s no point [United] coming down here expecting hot water and heating,” Coughlan warned.

Aside from the outstanding replays, the fourth round concludes on Monday evening when second-tier Blackburn Rovers play host to League Two Wrexham.

The Welsh side will be hopeful of taking advantage of Blackburn’s underwhelming form to progress after beating Shrewsbury Town 1-0 in the third round.
