A new FPL gameweek brings another important captaincy decision and with surprise early blanks for Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka last time out, some managers are tempted to look elsewhere.

Haaland wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet in Manchester City’s narrow win over Newcastle, while Saka had penalty duties taken off him by Martin Odegaard in Arsenal’s 1-0 success at Crystal Palace.

But which FPL stars should you be considering for the captain’s armband this week? Here are the top picks in conjunction with Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool.

Erling Haaland

Haaland might have blanked last time out but he’s still the number one captain pick heading into the Sheffield United game. Man City always dominate promoted teams and as their talisman it’s highly likely Haaland will add to the already-impressively long list of Premier League sides he’s scored against.

The Blades have a number of injury issues in their squad and with a brace away at Burnley in Gameweek 1 already, Haaland should push on from here. He’s on penalties, too, so bet against him at your peril!

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has failed to net in his opening two fixtures but all that could change with a home game against Nottingham Forest up next, with AI even going as far as putting him as the top vice-captain pick for this weekend. Rashford has registered seven shots in the box, with two of those being big chances.

Only Haaland scored more fantasy points than Rashford in home games last season, with 13 of his 17 goals coming at Old Trafford. That included a 14-point haul in this fixture where he grabbed a goal and an assist. If Rasmus Hojlund is fit to make his debut, Rashford would shift to his preferred position on the wing, amplifying his fantasy potential.

Martin Odegaard

Arsenal captain and talisman Martin Odegaard was their surprise penalty taker against Crystal Palace on Monday, that conversion earning him 11 points. It’s rumoured he asked Saka to take the spot-kick after Saka missed one in pre-season and now Odegaard is off the mark he could well continue as the leader of this Gunners side.

Odegaard has had six shots on goal this season and is also involved in Arsenal’s other set pieces, with three corners and one free kick already. A home game against a frail Fulham defence brings lots of potential, with Odegaard scoring against them in both of their fixtures last campaign.
