How Harry Kane performed for Bayern Munich in Bundesliga debut

Harry Kane put in a stunning performance in his Bundesliga debut, scoring and assisting in a comfortable 4-0 win for Bayern Munich.

The England international made the move to Bavaria last week, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Allianz Arena and bringing an end to a glittering 19-year association with Tottenham Hotspur.

While his debut for Bayern didn’t go to plan in the German Super Cup, with the forward coming off the bench in a 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig, his Bundesliga debut and maiden start for his new club certainly did.

Within four minutes of the game against Werder Bremen, Kane exploited a ludicrously high defensive line to volley the ball delicately through to Leroy Sane who was able to subsequently open the scoring.

That assist set the tone for the rest of Kane’s impressive showing at the Weserstadion as he would consisistently cause problems for the Bremen backline.

After seeing two shots well-blocked by the Bremen defence and a sighter from 20-yards fly just wide of the post, the forward would get his goal in the 74th minute. Kane latched on to a sharp Alphonso Davies pass just outside of the box before controlling and cooly slotting past Jiri Pavlenka in goal.

Kane would then be subbed off in the 84th minute before Bayern added two more goals in additional time.

“It was fantastic,” he told Sky Sports. “There was a lot of talk, a lot of build-up to this game, I just couldn’t wait to get out there and get started of course. It started well with a goal early on.

“It was a tough game, we created some good chances. We lacked the end product. They came out in the second half and caused us a couple of problems for five, ten minutes. Overall we stayed calm and managed to get the second goal and the boys finished it off from the bench. Overall just the perfect start and looking forward to the next one.

“I think you’ve seen with my game for the last four or five years I like to drop deep and link play and I think with the pace we have around me in this team, it works perfectly.

“I’m a number 9 first and foremost so I’ve got to get into the box and make the runs forward.”

“He had a constant influence,” the boss said. “He’s simply very, very smart. He knows what he’s doing and he’s unbelievably precise.

“He makes every player around him better because of his awareness.

“It was a very, very good debut.”
