How much Kylian Mbappe could earn if he rejects Al Hilal to join Real Madrid next season

The Kylian Mbappe transfer circus is in town again this summer in case you missed last year’s show. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has been offered the chance to join Al Hilal for a mind-boggling £259m but appears set to reject Saudi Arabian advances.

Having decided against signing a contract extension with PSG this summer, Mbappe is already looking towards joining Real Madrid next year when his current deal with the French champions expires.

This was expected to happen last summer, but instead he decided to sign a new deal with the Parisians.

PSG want to sell Mbappe this summer rather than lose him for free next year and were likely relieved when Al Hilal’s eye-watering bid landed on the table. However, Mbappe’s reluctance to move to the Saudi Pro League has thrown a large spanner in the works.

Instead, Mbappe looks set to run down his current lucrative deal and join Los Blancos for nothing next summer – although Mbappe himself will likely earn an enormous signing-on bonus – and there is good reason for the 24-year-old to do this due to the huge sum he will pocket even if he refuses to play for PSG next season.

Even if Mbappe rejects Al Hilal, he will still be set up with a lovely payday at PSG.

Even if he doesn’t kick a ball next season the France captain will still receive his staggering weekly wages, as well as a loyalty bonus for staying another season. If he does play, he could potentially earn even more if there are performance-related bonuses as part of his contract.

Currently, Mbappe is on £42.5m per annum, working out at roughly £817,000-a-week. While there are slightly contrasting reports on the exact figure, it’s certainly in this region. To put that into perspective, the most well-paid player in the Premier League is Kevin De Bruyne, who reportedly earns £400,000-a-week, under half of what Mbappe currently takes home at PSG.

It is also reported that Mbappe will earn an ironic loyalty bonus from PSG should he stay at the club past 1 August. If he is still at the club by that time, he will potentially earn £51m from the French champions, even if hypothetically he moved to Saudi Arabia on 2 August.

Should he stay at PSG until next summer and then join Real Madrid, he will have earned £93.5m from the Parisians by this time next year. Although a deal to Los Blancos would technically be free, the Spanish side would likely offer Mbappe an astronomical signing-on bonus.

Reports have suggested that when Madrid attempted to sign Mbappe for free in the summer of 2022, they offered the Frenchman a £112m signing-on fee. On top of all of this, Los Blancos have also offered Mbappe 100% of his image rights which would enable him to profit even more from an extremely lucrative source of income.

If Mbappe follows this route to the Bernabeu, he would earn a total of £205.5m from PSG and Real Madrid, excluding his own personal sponsorships, business deals, image rights and advertising campaigns.

Even if Mbappe turns down the fortunes of Saudi Arabia, he will probably be able to survive on his current earnings.
