How much Man Utd paid for Andre Onana revealed

Inter have revealed the exact sum they received from Manchester United for Andre Onana during the summer transfer window.

United completed the signing of Onana back in July, securing their long-term replacement for David de Gea, who was released at the end of his contract and remains without a club.

Onana rose to global prominence during his six-year spell at Ajax, featuring in their run to the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018/19 season.

He joined Inter on a free transfer last summer and went one step closer to European glory with the Nerazzurri, playing a starring role as they reached the Champions League final before falling to Manchester City.

Chelsea showed an interest in signing Onana earlier this year but instead decided to move for a cheaper option in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Robert Sanchez, paving the way for the Cameroonian to join United and reunite with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

At the time of the transfer, it was reported United had paid a fee just north of €46m (£40m) before add-ons for Onana, and Inter have now confirmed the sum paid was €50.2m (£43.7m) in their public financial accounts.

The move made Onana the fifth most expensive sale in Inter’s history, following on from Mauro Icardi (€58m), Achraf Hakimi (€60m), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (€69m) and Romelu Lukaku (€115m).

By contrast, Onana’s incoming did not even crack United’s top ten of most expensive imports, while they paid more for Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund during the same transfer window.

Onana has made a shaky start to life at Old Trafford with a series of errors and gaffes, but he came up trumps in Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Kobenhavn in the Champions League, saving a last-minute penalty from Jordan Larsson to preserve the three points.
